Christ on a Cracker: Jon Voight accuses Obama of provoking civil war

Actor Jon Voight is on his way to Cincinnati, and Atlanta, in order to participate in Fox News host Sean Hannity's latest "Freedom Concerts." But first, he paused long enough to share some extra nuttiness with the Washington Times.
"There's a real question at stake now. Is President Obama creating a civil war in our own country?" Voight said in an interview with the paper.
He continued:
We are witnessing a slow, steady takeover of our true freedoms. We are becoming a socialist nation, and whoever can't see this is probably hoping it isn't true ...
Do not let the Obama administration fool you with all their cunning Alinsky methods. And if you don't know what that method is, I implore you to get the book "Rules for Radicals," by Saul Alinsky. Mr. Obama is very well trained in these methods.
The real truth is that the Obama administration is professional at bullying, as we have witnessed with ACORN at work during the presidential campaign. It seems to me they are sending down their bullies to create fist fights among average American citizens who don't want a government-run health care plan forced upon them. So I ask again: Is President Obama creating a civil war in our own country?

Pffffft? It is just a noise. Many cartoonists use it to denote the sound someone makes when they are doing what is known to comedians as a "spit take." The usual scene shows a person sipping some kind of a beverage when someone else says something unexpected and outrageous. The person doing the spit take makes a bit of a choking gesture before the pressure of the laughter or shock or whatever proves to be too much and he or she sprays the beverage out of their mouth with a "pfffffft!" sound
I don't mind laughing with you, cmdinc. I don't even mind being laughed AT. I have been irritable these past several days -- and am likely acting a bit out of character -- because of a crushing sense of disappointment in many of my fellow Americans. If someone has thoroughly researched the issue and rejects health insurance reform based on logical, well-reasoned, and coherent arguments, I can not only accept that...I can respect it.
But I simply cannot muster a scintilla of patience any longer for those who are treating this matter like it is some kind of entertaining political game in which lying and distorting and spreading fear are considered legitimate strategies. Didn't these people have PARENTS for crying out loud? It is NEVER all right to tell lies. The end does not justify those means. Ever. I thought we were a better people than that, and the fact that I was wrong makes me feel deeply ashamed.

I understood what it meant, i was just responding whith what i hope was taken with a sense of humor. If you were to read the original response i tried to make the point that we need checks and balances in our government. At present there are none. Just as when the Repubs had the white house, and the congress nothing productive got done, as is the case now. there are always two sides of an argument, i respect yours but i do not agree with it. I don't beleive all of our points are lies. Health care is a major issue, but the dems are going it alone. The truth is congress does not need any repub votes to get this to pass, so why are people on the left so outraged at the dissenters? In reality our dissent can be overlooked and disregarded. Does Health care need reform? Yes. in my opinion if we go to a government option, soon the entire system will be government run. I do not believe that is what is good for our country.

We can't pass this bill - as we will all lose. I am an MD - and I am here to tell you that this will not benefit America or Americans. I'l submit that we do need to make changes to the current state of things - but this "Obama Plan" is not what it is being sold to you.
Public Option will create a vast and inefficient (and ineffective) government burocracy where many medical decisions will be at the mercy of the new type of government workers - think of it as postal workers deciding people's eligibility. Sounds scary yet?
The promise of competition between the public and the private plans is a blatant lie. An employer is certain to pay a $400 fine to the government than a $700 private insurance premium per employee. Voila - the employees will not have a choice - this is plain economics. Private guys will go out of business within a couple of years. There is a video of Obummer floating on the net - where he says it in plain English (before elected) - that private insurances will wither away - not what he is promissing America now - LIES and more LIES. A government monopoly on healthcare - is that what you want? Believe me - you do not!!!
We can't afford this plan - again, let me repeat it - we can't afford it. The illegals need to be excluded from any medical care - except emergency - with a follow-through to deportation. But neither Obummer, nor Bush before him want to piss off the hispanic constituency - but that's where the fiscal salvation lies. Simple as that.
Finally, up to now, Americans enjoyed the highest quality of medical care in the world. The most advanced methods, instruments, tools, operations, methodologies, drugs, etc. We have billions spent on R&D - that which drives progress. We have only the best and brightest go through the rigors and the expenses of med-school and residency requirements. The Obummer plan removes ALL the incentives - for R&D, for education - it creates Socialistic Mediocrity - no more America the Great - welcome to the America the below-average. In every field.
And if that wasn't enough - this bill is loaded with pure dirt. Did you know that there is a provision for EVERY accredited institution to have a shoehorn approach to minority medical professionals. Is this the kind of racially tolerant America we want? To have minority doctors not be subjected to the same strict rigors as the white ones? What bullshit is that? What racism? WTF? Let me translate. For UCLA med school to remain nationally accredited, they will need to have minority quotas and fast-track minority programs. Get it? If you still are for the "Obummer Plan" - you obviously don't.
CNN and MSNBC tell you that the insurance companies are to blame - so you hate the "rich insurance cats". Insurance companies, while not saints - do not deserve your hate - it is misguided. The have something called P/L ratios - Profit to Loss. The amount of premiums they recieve vs. the amount of claims they pay out. Well, the majority of insurance companies operate at a ratio of 1 or less. And they still have to employ people, pay taxes, etc, etc, etc. If you don't understand how they remain afloat - well, you're not an actuary - are you? They invest those premiums and earn money on those investments. Then they pay out the claims... OK - so what's so evil there - when there are fraudulent claims killing both their profits and yours and my premiums...
I could go on and on - but if you really don't understand the Obummer Plan - don't assume for a second that they have your and mine best interests in mind. They want to line the pockets of a new crop of people, that's all... - 2 years ago

Wow I really tried to stay out of this argument, I live pretty far south, and other than class issues there aren't many racial problems here. So the idea of a civil war is seeming week, although I do see a class war potentially in the making (pretty much the same thing). As far as southerners being dumb, inbred, racist, poor, and/or ignorant; that's a lame argument. I was in a store today the whole town knew a poor working class mix raced couple and their children, and they were treated like family by many poor working class white people. They were all on a first name basis, happy to see each other. As far as inbred, that's just insulting and probably happens in about the same percentages everywhere. Poor financially, yeah that's pretty common, seems we don't have many big factories getting government bailouts. Still, that's a lame argument we have multimillion dollar homes along the coastal communities for miles. Lot's of rich people too, just little to no middle class. Let's see someone brought up gun toting, um yeah some of us poor people can't afford that t-bone or prime rib, and deer is plentiful and way more healthy. The whole reason the south does seem to have so many poor people anyway, is because of where the big industries are located, and most of the jobs down here are catering to the rich, building there homes, serving there food, and working hospitality in tourist season. If they weren't so greedy we wouldn't be so poor and less educated. But this southern gun toting idiot stereotype, is about some bullshit, and the thought that we're a bunch of racists is shit too. On top of that there were black, and native regiments on the confederate side during the civil war, willingly. That shit was about money, and the south altogether suffering over paying a premium for factory goods while barely being compensated for agricultural goods, along with about ten different issues, that didn't happen to be slavery. To this day I don't see how someone who has no property, is forced to work at minimum wage conditions or be homeless, barely making it paycheck to paycheck is not a slave, regardless of color. WE live in a country right now filled with millions of slaves, if you really want to think about it. And northerners share just as much of the fault, and a great many of those "slaves" are white.....hmmmm, maybe there should be another civil war.....

Here, so I won't waste space on another entirely different post; What's with the name calling, insults, and personal attacks? It's not productive, in fact it's typical of the type of person that would harm another. Dehumanize them with insults until you truly believe they are inferior, and then treat them as you see them.... Along with the lumping of each other into the same looked down upon category (from your perspective), so everyone who doesn't believe a 100% of what you say is just one of "them" (aids in dehumanization). That and the ongoing ramblings about parties, as if everyone has to be in one, or they are a secret agent for the other... There is a bunch short sighted rhetoric going on around here.
Oh-and let's get to some universal health care, even if it takes selling of some slave masters H2's, or several.... You're entitled, we're entitled.... fair enough....

Change? Hahaha - still drinking cool-aid I see... Blind shall not see again - that's for sure... The only change will be the sore feeling in your ass when he is done. More war in Afghanistan - didn't you peacenics hate bush for starting a war with Iraq? There are no WMD;s in Afghanistan - so where do you the loyal subjects find justification - in your asses? Oh no, that's where your brains hide, sorry...
Acknowledge one thing though - about 49% of the country voted against this socialist - and if the election was now - knowing about him what some have been telling you all along - he would have never won. So you see - you're not the majority - and we're not the sore losers - we just disagree on what we feel is right for America - postoffice-like service for every industry in US or private ownership - with all its excesses. None are perfect systems - but the second one is the one that has made America #1 in the world - while the first one had seen nation-states fail miserably...

Personally, I think many celebrities with their "causes" they use just to get publicity for themselves are the same. All they do is throw our money at problems and yet we still have a billion people in this world without food and potable water, while they continue to rake in millions at the box office while using the poor to get exposure for themselves. Perhaps we need a moratorium on arrogant, self important, bloviated celebrities on all sides of the political spectrum. It says much for American society when anything a celebrity can say has more merit just because of that, the subject of this post included.

What are the republicans thinking? Do they think if they get the majority again, all will be well with America? Do they think we are only a country when they are in power? Do they think we will all just get along when they rule? NO! NO! NO!
Been there, done that! They had 8 years to screw up our country! We voted, enough is enough!
Why do our votes only count when they have the majority? If they loose, they want a revolution? That's just crazy! They will cause havoc if their choice is not in power? That's just crazy!
I don't think these nuts should lead! They can't follow, what makes them think they can lead? A gun? Guns decide elections in third world countries, not America. We have prisons for those who want to lead by gun! It's time for our Justice System to put these morons in check, before they really do start a civil war! Guns do not have a place in politics in America!

One of the Hollyweards speaks his mind and the entire current leftard community jumps all over him. Can you people fathom someone disagreeing with the Obummer agenda for the US? Most of the overprivileged fucks in Hollyweard are libs - rich and clueless - like that Sarandon bitch - another fucking Jane Fonda of our time, Sean (gimme a buck for Budweiser) Penn, etc, etc, etc. For someone who calls themselves liberals (from the word LIBERTY) - you sure are a closeminded and an intolerant bunch of hypocrites, aren't you? Oh well, keep on drinking the cool-aid - god knows, you aren't getting any wiser from it. Obummer has another year to wreak havoc on America - unchecked. how would we pay for universal healthcare? i guess we would start by having things cost what they really cost. or maybe you think it cost a facility thousands of dollars a day to run a few tests, feed a person and let them sleep the night. perhaps you might also think that drugs cost a lot of money to produce. but i think we both know, based on the cost other countries pay, that drugs are jacked up a 1000%. and for why? i don't know. perhaps to keep the cycle of bullshit going.

Yep, I'll be the first to agree that something needs to be done to rein in the costs of health care. But something also needs to be done to rein in the deficit, which in just the past 8 months has grown to over FOUR TIMES HIGHER than Bush's record high.
It was reported on the news yesterday that the projected deficit was a whopping TWO TRILLION dollars ABOVE what was first stated by the administration. Our deficit will exceed 9 TRILLION dollars over the next 10 years. That means hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars per year JUST TO KEEP UP WITH THE INTEREST.
I don't have an answer to anything, but I'm smart enough to see that we simply cannot afford to pay for all the stuff Obama is trying pass. There are so many young people on Current, looking at things through their rose colored glasses, shouting for this program and that program. They better take the glasses off and recognize reality. They are digging themselves into a financial hole they, and their children, will never pay off. All this debt will be on THEIR backs..........
Obama is telling folks what he thinks they want to hear, which is what he does. No matter what he's saying, if you will listen to people who have studied the health care proposals in depth, many, if not most of them admit that it will not work like Obama says it will. Everyone is running down the protesters, calling them fakes, plants, astroturf, etc., not taking them or their questions seriously. While I don't agree with some of the tactics I do see that they are genuinely angry and have lots of good questions they want answered. You should listen to some of their questions.

Here's the definition of deficit, according to wiktionary....
"Deficiency in amount or quality; a falling short; lack; A situation wherein, or amount whereby, government spending exceeds government revenue"
The government is now spending money we don't have, four times as much as it was spending a year ago. (The deficit now is, I think, close to 2 TRILLION dollars.) In the next 10 years we will be spending 9 TRILLION dollars more than we are taking in in taxes. The only way to reduce that is to CUT spending significantly, (which, every time they start talking about cutting spending everyone jumps up and down shouting "don't cut funding for MY program, cut someone else's!") or by raising taxes, or by causing inflation by simply printing more money.
Of course all politicians tell folks what they want to hear. But I urge you to study the issues and not just believe what they tell you. Read, watch different news channels, listen to what lots of folks have to say on the same topic. Somewhere in the middle of everything you learn you will find the truth. We simply cannot afford to pay for all the things Obama is promising us. He has some good ideas but he's not being truthful when he tells us we can do it. We're going bankrupt, if we're not already there.

I think that saying such foolish things is horrible.
Bush had people in other countries throwing shoes at him for God's sake during a press conference.

So which is it? You complain about 'we got the same old thing'.

You can't have it both ways.As for debt ....who do you think created that debt? Bush crashed the global economy.
Thanks to Reagan and the Bushies, the middle class has been taken out of the equation and bankrupted as all the jobs have been permanently outsourced overseas to slave economies over decades by so-called 'conservatives', never to return.

"Today, 40% of all Americans are on so-called 'socialized medicine', between the VA, Medicare, all the existing government programs combined. They are the only Americans happy and secure with their insurance from which 30% is not being pocketed by Wall St."
You might be correct on some of this. The only problem is...... it's all going broke, or already IS broke. Good old government oversite, you know. And you can't be serious that the people who are on government programs are the only people happy and secure. How silly.
While we're at it, lets talk about today's news in which they said the Obama administration underestimated the projected deficit by a mere couple trillion or so dollars. The deficit will be 9 to 10 TRILLION dollars over the next ten years. Who do you suppose will be paying for it?

You should have asked that question of Bush and his POS Congress while he was running up the bill of two wars off budget while he was busy finishing the hatchet-job Reagan started in destroying the entire western economy, and not just the US, though it will take the biggest long-term hit. That's right, your boy created this and now you asshats are complaining when the bill is overdue.
As to who will pay the bill? well, I hate to tell you but, Bush didn't tell you this and Raygun forgot because he was riddles with Alzheimers...it's you, 2helenahandbasket

"....You should have asked that question of Bush and his POS Congress......."
"It's time to pay the piper for Bush/Bush/Reagns crimes and ignorant ideology......."
LOL!! Now HOW did I know this stuff would all be blamed on Bush? And not only Bush, but all the way back to Reagan with nary a mention of the Clinton years or Democratic majorities. Wonder why they didn't fix things? Gosh, maybe the Clinton years didn't really happen....
You know, you can blame whomever you like. The truth is, ALL of them got us to where we are now. I would also like to point out that Bush wins the prize for giving us the largest deficit ever. That is, until Obama came along. In his eight MONTHS in office he has created a deficit that is FOUR TIMES the size of Bush's record deficit. Now, some might say he HAD to do some of the stuff he did. And some might say he should have just let the system work and let companies do what they do when they're in trouble.
Everyone talks about things picking up, things beginning to bounce back, and I hope it's true. It's funny, though, how the reports also say that only a very small portion of the "stimulus" money has even been spent. Does that mean things would be picking up by now WITHOUT the "stimulus" package that will cost us a fortune? And that's just the tiny tip of the iceberg of the ridiculous, runaway spending we have had, so that no one would fail.
I would be one of the first to admit we need to do something about our health care system. But I have a HUGE problem with Obama's HURRY to do all things. His "transparency" has turned out to be not transparent in any form. We don't have a clue of the details of some of the programs he's put in place. What happened to his promise that things would be posted online for all to read and inspect BEFORE they were voted on? Even the people who are VOTING don't know the details of what they've voted for.
I feel like we're being railroaded, and I believe a good many of us feel the same way. Obama has lost ground big time in the latest polls. I truly believe people want him to succeed. But he needs to slow the hell down and let us take a breath. And yes, all of us will be paying on the deficit. And if Obama doesn't slow down we'll be paying to infinity on 2009's borrowing. - 2 years ago

Obama is not the one inciting a "civil war". All of the hatred, conspiracy theories and false accusations about America are coming from an extreme group of people who can not handle the concept of his presidency.
Meanwhile, is this really a new feeling? When Bush was in office, the country felt split as well. In fact, history shows us there has always been a group of fundamentalists screaming "BEWARE!" - Now the trigger word is socialism, but before that is was terrorism, communism, fascism, etc.
From what I can tell being scared of change and pondering doomsday aren't new nor political positions, it's simply the human condition.

come on lets not go to the area of instigating 'conspiracy' to incite fear..because obama ran on that campaign..CHANGE...name one change FOR THE BETTER that occured??
the difference between the liberal nut that insitgated fear compared to the conservative nut that is instigating fear now is this nut is actually serious to use thier rights to bear arms to protect thier rights..and pretty much yout have to bleed to get to these people..
are you willing to bleed for obama and his change???
