Will Maine turn around on gay marriage?

afitzgerald
The Atlantic's Daily Dish blog pointed to this ad from EqualityMaine against the ballot initiative that would overturn Maine's new marriage equality law. Nice, normal-looking folks extolling Maine's values as an nice, accepting place.

This is sure to be the first in a wave of efforts to reverse positions on gay marriage in New England states, as well as a new front in the continuing national debate.

What do you think? How will Maine's 2009 ballot turn out? Do you live in Maine? Does this ad resonate with you?

    • That looks like a wonderful place to live. This is a very convincing ad and I'm hoping that the folks gearing up for the campaign to overturn Proposition 8 here in California are taking note.

    • I agree Maine as well as rest of the states face many problems affecting all of the population and need to be addressed urgently. In addition Maine must address a fast growing anti-male movement.

    • This video was posted here on Current a week ago. I thought it was very effective then and I stand by that conviction now. This commercial shows how life really is, underneath all the hype.

    • Why is the issue of gay marriage still being disputed in Maine? We have enough problems with opiate addiction in much of the state that still haven't been solved, not to mention all the other national concerns that are affecting us like the economy. Making an appeal to reverse a bill that was passed is adding something on the to-do list that doesn't need to be on there in the first place! I like the ad, I think it kicks ass, but it shames me that our state has to vote for gay marriage rights TWICE to make it official.

    • Finally!!!!!! This is a great approach and I only wish it had been used in California during the Prop 8 hogwash. Keep it up!!!

    • I only hope the rest of the country will recognize that we're all human and deserve equal opportunities to pursue our happiness... This is beautiful, and I think Maine did a great job with this....
