Not coincidentally, Beck has repeatedly singled out Van Jones for criticism, citing evidence of his communist past. The source of this evidence is New Zealand blogger Trevor Loudon, the same researcher who originally unearthed the fact that Obama's mysterious mentor "Frank" in Obama's book Dreams from My Father was Communist Party member Frank Marshall Davis.
We confirmed that identification with a separate source and ran with the story last year, even obtaining the 600-page FBI file on Davis. It also came out that Davis was a sex pervert, doper, and pornographer.
The Obama campaign eventually confirmed Frank's identity but tried to play down his relationship with Obama. Most media gave the scandal a ho-hum.
Trevor Loudon, who deserves far more credit than he gets for smoking out the communists in and around the Obama Administration, broke the Van Jones story back on April 6 and has run several follow-ups. Among other things, he revealed that Jones was a leading member of a Marxist organization known by the acronym STORM, which means Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement. A 96-page history of the organization mentions how several STORM members had traveled to Cuba in the summer of 1999 as part of the Venceremos Brigade. This is the group that was originally sponsored by the Castro regime and the Weather Underground.

samthesixth you replied and said: "But, Jones himself proudly proclaimed to be a Communist. I am not saying it is right or wrong or that he shouldn't be an adviser to the President--only that he labels himself with the term."
Again, so what? I think you're missing the point here. Dealers of fear and those who wish to use it as a tool to push their own agenda and divide the nation won't win on this front - Oh, and we do have eyes and ears; we can see that he's a "Black Man" too. What are they trying to say with the references to his race? These people have got to be kidding me if they think Americans are stupid enough to have the wool pulled over our eyes yet again. We have Atheist, Jews and then some in this country, in positions of power, which in my opinion is far more dangerous than communism! At least he has a political belief!

jace,
I agree with your point about not being afraid of communists or their ideas. I was just trying to point out that he has labeled himself a communist. Even though I may not agree with Glenn Beck or the right, I don't think they have done anything nefarious in using terminology to describe Jones that he himself used.

Why do you automatically turn this into a racial issue? From what I've read on this site, the pro-Obama crowd has trouble looking past the skin color of those in power. Everytime someone disagrees with Obama or Van Jones, they automatically become racist. Have you listened to anything Van Jones has said in the recent past? He blames whites for a variety of problems in the black community, yet he has no rational evidence behind it. Why aren't his comments racist? Why the double standard?

jacejasons:
I didn't turn it into a racial matter, and by "you" I'm assuming you are referring to African-Americans? I said who cares about his race. I don't even believe in race, we're all human beings.
Van talks about whites because the issue needs to be address perhaps? The great Nichiren Shonin talks about how we must confront our past if we are to move forward to a peacefully future. We may not like what we did in the past, and the past may be painful for many, but it is good to learn from our mistakes.
As a white man, why is it that we can't fully acknowledge and accept the shame and wrong that was committed toward many other groups by our ancestors, which is a fact of history that can not be denied. It took me awhile to confront this issue head on, but now I understand it better because I have accepted my ancestors burden per say. Just like now with global warming and many other issues that plague our world, we will have a lackluster legacy if we don't change our ways.
If you're white, the facts are we killed, murdered, enslaved, and many other terrible things, but that was then. Now we have the opportunity to be courageous, brotherly and participate in the movement of human revolution and evolution.
Because he mentions the facts of the past doesn't make him racist, maybe hurt, angry or unsettle. As his fellow human and, as a fellow American, it is up to me to show him / them that I do subscribe to the ideas of the past and that I too wish to be apart of this new higher consciousness.

Tell us why this is interestingOkay, so this guy is a bit radical... and what? We've had worst people and still do, and they're not even considered radicals. The guy has some very interesting and valid points. Though Van Jones may be "aggressive" in his approach, many have tried the "P.C." way of getting through to the population and unfortunately America is still slumbering. I can't say I'm happy that he is or may be a communist, but that doesn't bother me nor do I feel threaten by it. We have freedom of religion, freedom of this and that, why can't someone have freedom of political view? And what exactly is so terrible with Communism? A lot of people have been throwing that word around, as if we should have an immediate allergic reaction. What people forget is that this is the United States of America, and "We The People" are the keepers and guardians of our great nation - not the president, not congress and the senate and most certainly no any one individual or group is going to take that away. Those forefathers (radicals) of ours were smart enough to make sure of that. I actually look forward to having more "radicals" in politics. We need more people to shake things up and get Washington's and the people's attention.

Why NOT? Too focused on a white man that says far nicer things about Obama that this black man will not and has not.....he said worse things.

I could care less if he's a communist, why does that term make you crap in your pants? All you tough guys run for cover at the mere mention of socialism or communism, do you fear that in a fair comparison of ideas that capitalism would lose? are you afraid that if the concept of the elimination of both extreme wealth and extreme poverty replaced by a comfortable middle class were presented that most would welcome that? I think you are right to fear that, because I think that idea would appeal to everyone except the extremely wealthy. imagine a guy like Bill Gates has an idea and then the people who design and build the machines and the operators of those machines that put that idea into actual production, and the people who then promote and sell that production all get to share equally in the profits it creates...do you think anybody except Bill Gates would object to that concept? I don't think you would.

J_Jammer:
Liberal is synonymous with tolerant.
But based on those "open" minded liberals reaction to Beck by calling those who buy commercials and getting them to not buy commercials...well it shows that they are being intolerant.
So Liberal Lynch Mob is correct and apt and is now the phrase I'll abuse because it's more true than open minded or tolerant.

J_Jammer:
Here's the problem...
Stating liberal(little L) is synonymous with tolerant, though true in this context, becomes a sweeping generalization when you apply it to a "Liberal." Just because two terms are synonymous you can't literally equate them for sake of an argument, assuming there's logic behind it.
Are the Libs who protest beck's remarks on "obama having a hatred for white people" and his sponsors intolerant of him/them? well, literally, yes.
Does a Liberal lose creditability when they show intolerance towards defamation or it's financial sponsor? well, actually, no.
Would a conservative be hypocritical if they weren't always intolerant? I would hope not.

J_Jammer:
Conservatives are not opposites of liberals, though. Therefore if a liberal is tolerant doesn't mean that a conservative is intolerant.
That's like stating if a Conservative is religious then a liberal cannot be because the opposite is (lamely) Atheist or agnostic and therefore not as religious. Which, as we both know, isn't true....
You can state that there are some asinine people who are vindictive on both sides and right now we are discussing the vindictive ones who claim to be open minded and want gay marriage and equality with minorities and the like.
It is not ok to target someone after you just complained that they are were unfairly targeting someone.
Know how to combat misinformation? By creating the right information. If all they can do is attack those that don't agree with them...well...they are not going to win and they might get rid of him, but there are still way more talk show hosts who are conservative than there are liberal.
What are they going to do? Make the laws so that they silence those who are conservative talk shows? because that will prove those talks show host right....and so far they are doing a pretty darn good job proving who they don't like right.

Speaking to the East Bay Express, Jones said he first became radicalized in the wake of the 1992 Rodney King riots, during which time he was arrested.

Eleganza, I don't think the post is stupid per-say but informitive in the way Glenn Beck is trying to deflect attention from his own words. I think a communist is just another word for the right wing vocabulary like fascist or socialist. They are out of ammo and need to go to the closet of old files to pull one out for old times sake.
