Argentina Rules Punishing Marijuana Use Unconstitutional

The decision follows a case of five young men who were arrested with a few marijuana cigarettes in their pockets.
But the court said use must not harm others and made it clear it did not advocate a complete decriminalisation.
Correspondents say there is a growing momentum in Latin America towards decriminalising drugs for personal use.
The Argentine court ruled that: "Each adult is free to make lifestyle decisions without the intervention of the state."
Supreme Court President Ricardo Lorenzetti said private behaviour was legal, "as long as it doesn't constitute clear danger".
"The state cannot establish morality," he said.

Lets hope the privilege doesn't go astray and end up nothing more than another argument for Drug War supporters.

It will only be legalized here when big fat greedy corporatist Pharma can control it and make it really really expensive.
Sad. It could be a cash crop for farmers on marginal land, and it could be taxed all the way down the line an dup the lilne and provide revenue. Can you imagine the foaming at the mouth crazies that would fly out of the fundamentalist churches along with the pharma paid employhees and paid protestors if we tried to do some modern thing like Argentina? Americans are dumber than dirt.

because they have no money or credit to fund these ridiculous violations of personal freedom. And frankly it looks like ours will soon shrivel up. Its shame we have to go completely broke to wake up the entire nation to the cost of running a police state.

Look at all the other backwards stuff in the USA. Most of the industrialized world has healthcare for all, but here the insurance industry runs our government. The pharmaceuticals are against legalization. Why? it would cost lots less than ambien and lots less than anti-nausea medication that does not work very well for cancer patients.
The parasitic greed pigs don't want it legalized. And the crazy church people want control over their undereducated followers. - 2 years ago

If anyone watched the Vangaurd episode about the recession in Argentina they have already been where we are but ten times worse, just maybe we will follow in their footsteps and after this recession have a more open mind on the subject of marijuana.
