    • Letter from Organizing for America:
Will you help me set the record straight about seniors and reform by writing a quick letter to the editor of your local paper?

You can write and submit your letter online in just a few minutes, and OFA will give you all the tips and info you need to begin. Your words could end up on one of the most-read pages of the paper. Even if your letter isn't published, it will help ensure your local newspapers understand their readers want the facts.

It's so important that we help set the record straight so that seniors aren't frightened out of supporting the reform we need. Insurance reform will strengthen Medicare, give seniors more choices of doctors, and help each and every American.

As seniors and engaged citizens, our voices have tremendous power, and our country needs us to speak up now.

      My response:
No, I won't. I refuse to help on any reform except single payer HR 676. You people are farting around and it looks to me like we will get nothing except a mandate that will require people that can't afford it, to buy insurance from the very companies that have been screwing us for years.
I am one of those seniors you think is afraid Medicare will change for the worse. Not so, we are afraid you will screw up and not provide Medicare for all. Personally your letter offends me. Seniors aren't as a group any stupider than the rest of the population.

    • I wouldn't mind seeing the insurance companies put out of business. Just like the banks they are financially raping us and that makes them criminals.

    • No one knows what "public option" will actually look like, so everyone assumes it means whatever they want it to mean.

It's very possible that Public Option, even if we get one, will be a sad twisted joke on us.

We are going to have to pay very close attention, and hold our representatives' feet to the fire.

The public option is going to be a medicare-lite plan where you will have to buy into it. You'll have to pay premiums, you'll have deductibles, and you'll have co-pays.

Plus HR 3200 has a mandate that will require all citizens to purchase a plan. I for one will not be obeying that law. I will not purchase anything I cannot afford.

    • Single payer means that the insurance companies would be completely out of the picture, all claims would be paid by the govt. through a program much like Medicare.

Government option means that insurance companies would still continue as they are now, only they would be competing with a govt. program much like Medicare.

Except that unlike medicare, you're going to have premiums and deductibles and co-pays.

It's basically a private insurance plan, that's run by the government-- unless they farm it out to an insurance company, which is also possible.

That's what they did with the Dirigo plan here in Maine. It's a "government plan" but all they did was create subsidized plan with Anthem Blue Cross.

    • Single payer is the best option for the country and ultimately the economy. But I will settle for a government option.

    • Senator Kennedy was a wealthy man who cared about the less than wealthy. His promotion of the public option health plan is an example of his dedication to the average American. Let your Congressperson know you want and expect action on this in September.

    • Passing HR676 would be a fitting tribute to Senator Ted Kennedy. I suggest we write our representatives and tell them this is what we want, nothing less.
