Republican right wing terrorist - Democratic cash cow (Video)

locutus
The video of a Republican right wing terrorist is becoming a Democratic cash cow.

Democrats are making a silk purse out of a sows ear by raising money using a viral video depicting a Republican congressman praising a self identified "right wing terrorist". According to news reports, at a recent town hall meeting at Simpson University in Redding, Ca., 67-year-old Bert Stead rose and declared himself a “proud right-wing terrorist.” U.S. Rep. Wally Herger (R-Calif.) replied. "Amen, God bless you. There is a great American.”

What do you think about Wally praising the right wing terrorist?

    • ~The usual leftist spin with false accusations regarding a "senior" man who spoke in defiance concerning Janet Napolitano calling US citizens who defy and decry nefarious activities within our own bureaucracy as "terrorist."

~The sop typical of LPD"s, deny and vilify.

    • The old man is nothing but a blowhard who loves to hear himself talk. His comment that he was a proud right-wing terrorist was sarcasm. Still the level of ignorance being paraded as American patriotism is astounding and very embarrassing. I think I would have asked him if he planned on collecting social security and Medicare when he got older? I also would have asked him if he currently had any medical insurance because anyone with health insurance complaining about folks who have none has no credibility.

    • "The first winter was hard, but they didn't look for a handout."

Actually, they did, the first settlers in America would have been fucking wiped out were it not for Native Americans who taught them how to grow corn and provided for a great venue to steal resources and land from.

Right-wingers are all the same, predictably stupid and happy as pigs rolling in their own shit.

There is ONE glaring difference between an indentured servant and a slave in America.

Indentured servitude lasted for a several years, then the servant was freed, given money, and even allowed to start his own business in the trade he was serving in. These men and women also tended to be immigrants from other European countries coming into America.

Slaves were never freed. Enslavement for minorities, even in colonial days, meant service until you died.

Thank you, because this is obviously someone who did not pay attention in school. Further, indentured servitude ceased because they found an alternative, cheeper, stronger employees... correction - slaves.

      UWAZell,

My ancestors came to America from Germany in the early 1700s. They did not speak a word of English. They were enslaved by Gov. Alexander Spotswood to work in his mines. They were not indentured. Blacks are not the only ones to be slaves in America.

Since you question my knowledge of history, I would like to inform you that I am a historian with a Masters in African history. So, a question for you:

When free blacks were shipped to Liberia, what type of society did they create? What did they do with their new found power?

    • "..We built this country on people..."

Yeah, black people, Native American people, Asian people, Mexican people... They built it on pretty much any people they could get their hands on.

Really, he's got some nerve to claim that HE and his ilk built this country when it would be nothing if not for the minorities forced to create the infrastructure...

"The reason our country is so great is because we stand up and we earn what we are entitled to."

Let's see how him and the rest of his age group will stand up after osteoporosis and arthritis kicks in. Then again, I guess they all have health care plans, right?

Let's face it, the reason this country is so great for them is because they haven't had to lift a finger to build it, save for lashing the back of one of the less-than-obedient slaves.

Even now, minorities are predominantly low-wage workers because of the structure of our societal demographic and neighborhoods. If you want a good education in grade school through high school, then you have to go a predominantly white school or live in a predominantly white neighborhood. Since struggle does not apply to these people, then it does not exist to them. In the end, they believe anyone not succeeding is simply "not working hard enough", as opposed to the very real wealth, education, and standard of living gaps that occur in society today.

This man is right to call himself a terrorist. It is terrifying that people like this small-minded man not only exist but thrive, and his mindset along with it. How brainwashed do you have to be to hate an idea that brings health to those who might need a "handout"? Sorry not everyone has medicaid and a 401K, gramps... They don't give those out to everyone at McDonald's.

    • Oh for...

So let me get this straight, Sam. There are literally hundreds of thousands of federal statutes on the books. You are saying that each time a President and Congress are from the same party, every statute that has not been repealed or modified within 8-9 months is their "fault" or their "responsibility?" Of course, they very much ARE rolling back some of the worst examples of federal overreaching -- both in terms of federal statutes AND federal regulations -- under the Bush Administration. Of course, the Ds HAVE had just a few other items on their plate what with being forced to climb out of the biggest, nastiest hole one Presidential Administration has ever left its successor.

And why do you neglect to mention that President Obama worked very hard to modify the Patriot Act (and succeeded within the boundaries of Bush's threatened veto of changes beyond a certain point) when you know perfectly well he did so? And why do you act like every aspect of the Patriot Act was bad when you know it was a very lengthy piece of legislation that made enactments all over the federal code?

You know it IS possible to support your political agenda while making HONORABLE arguments that acknowledge the good things that people you don't particularly like have done and the bad things those you DO like have done. By analogy, I can still cheer for my favorite NFL team every Sunday while cheerfully admitting they aren't going anywhere until the idiots in the front office spend the money to get a decent quarterback...

      CZ,

My point is that there is not much difference in the policies of the two parties. I will agree that the rhetoric and simulacra are different but what comes out of the pen is just more of the same. Each election one side or the other sees hope in that their party will finally put our country (and not its own self interest) first. Each time we are disappointed.

My notion is that if a policy is so egregious then when the party that is against it takes power they should overturn it. If they do not they are either 1) too busy as you assert, 2) hypocrites, or 3) complicitous in the policy.

As for your last paragraph, we are in agreement. However, it may be time to change the front office and not keep giving it to the two "owners" who show blatant disregard for the fans.

...and I would not be opposed to the emergence of a third or even fourth viable party, bearing in mind I doubt many Americans have thought through the ramifications of "coalition" politics that are so common (and sometimes maddening) in other countries. If, for example, you have 4 parties, each of which has somewhere between 15% and 35% of the voting public behind it (not an uncommon situation among global democracies) no single party can win control of the government. So at least two (and perhaps even three) of the parties have to partner up in order to do so. "Strange bedfellows" doesn't even BEGIN to describe some of the partnerships that have emerged around the world in such circumstances.

But the most difficult concept to explain to those who would like to see the emergence of at least one more strong, viable, competitive party is that it can't be created and ready to assume control of the Government by next Thursday (Americans want a lot more than just their food to be fast and convenient).

What I mean is that the new party -- call it the Purple Party for grins -- can't just announce its formation and then say "here I am: respect me." Well, they can SAY it, but very, very few people will comply. Respect HAS to be earned. So I could envision, for example, an exceptionally well-organized and funded party electing a half dozen Members of Congress in the 2012 election cycle. If none of them performs well, that is the end of the party. But if at least one or two of them distinguish themselved, you might be able to double those results in 2016...but when you get that far out in time, people's eyes start to glaze over.,

That said, short of a violent revolution (which all humorous and eye-rolling rhetoric aside would NEVER be accepted in this country, I don't see how else to build an alternative party except through hard work, patience and unwavering commitment. But it CAN be done...

    • With comments like the ones by the right, promoting guns at town halls and right-wing terrorists, I don't know that it should be stopped.

President Obama should be held accountable if it is used for political purposes. Protecting citizens from radicals 'is' the job of government. We should not have to fear being attacked, or harmed due to politics. We are America! We have the right to choose our leaders. We have spoken! We chose a Democrat to lead our country.

The Republicans should do what we were forced to do! Suck it up, move along. They will have their chance again in four years. President Obama won fair and square.

    • Connie,

Bush may have created it, but Obama and the Dems have been in charge for 8 mos. They have not repealed it, they have extended it. At what point does Obama become responsible?

    • George W. implemented the 'domestic terrorist' guide lines. It's easy to say things, which make it appear, President Obama started the policy, but it was in fact George W. and the Department of Homeland Security, which initiated a system to identify 'domestic terrorists'.

People can say anything, but that doesn't make it true.

    • 'Proud right-wing terrorist'? Sadly, the guy is just an old man whom I don't think understands the danger in his words. But, what about the young right-wing terrorists, who heard the words of U.S. Rep. Wally Herger (R-Calif.) "Amen, God bless you. There is a great American.” Some of them are now bringing guns to town hall meetings.

Does U.S. Rep. Wally Herger think he gets to pick and choose who is a 'great American right-wing terrorist'? Statements like his, encourages others to become 'so-called' right-wing terrorists.

Terrorists? What's next? How far will Republicans go to thwart the efforts to change the direction of our country? Now they think it's okay to support terrorists?

Real terrorists, cause real terror. They aren't going to all be old men, just talking to gain the praise of the leaders of the Republican party. Many may think they should 'act' to gain an 'Amen, God bless you' from Republicans. Sad, sad, sad!

    • "My ancestors came over on the Mayflower but did not get off the boat looking for a welfare handout." Wow, Congressman, that is so..."admirable?" -- no, that's not it..."interesting?"--no, that's DEFINITELY not it..."pretentious?" -- Yes! Yes it is.

So if I remedy that oversight and give you and your family five bucks now, will you promise to get back on the boat?...

I always want to respond to statements like that by pointing out that my ancestors came here in the 1700s and fought in just about every war since the Revolution....and yet I've somehow managed to recognize that the country has changed since then and maybe we should consider the world we live in, not some idealized version of the past where all you had to do to pull yourself up by your bootstraps was head west and start farming some lanad.

      But then, that's just me.
