Rabbis Call for Fasting to Show Solidarity With Palestinian/Gaza Cause

A group of local rabbis is calling on Jews to observe a fast day in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
The group, part of a coalition of 60 rabbis around the country called Ta'anit Tzedek: Jewish Fast for Gaza, is advocating that Israel lift its three-year-old economic blockade, which it claims has resulted in "collective punishment" for Gaza's civilians due to the activities of extremists.
Israel's government maintains that it works to get humanitarian supplies into Gaza, but is hampered by security concerns.

doesnt anyone remember History We the US supplied Palistine with guns, tanks bombs, and then they betrayed the US. besides this has been written that this will happen. The strip belongs to the Hebrews, it was promised to them and for years we the US have denied them untill recently. I hate the casulities of war, but the Hebrews has lost more children and life to war than any other culture. It will end soon, the history book tells us it will end soon

Whether we like it or not, as Jewish Americans we are in the middle of this mess. Not only do our taxes pay for the Israeli occupation of Palestine, but our very bodies have been appropriated by Israel, which claims to speak for Jews everywhere. Certainly it can be said this is an American issue—which of course it is—and certainly religion and ethnicity can be tiresome and traditional. But I think the end result of taking this position and not supporting a Jewish voice against the occupation would abrogate our responsibility to resist injustice and would, in fact, hurt the anti-occupation struggle.
I have participated in several demonstrations in the last few years where just the sight of self-identified Jews denouncing Israel’s policies causes jaws to drop. This visual breaking of the stereotype—of Jews unendingly supporting whatever Israel does—seems to fry the synapses of bystanders. Of course it is met with abuse by some frantic and hysterical Jews who see this as the height of disloyalty. For instance, in addition to the constant refrain of “fuck you,” certain words seem to predominate: “ugly bitch,” “Nazi,” and “traitor.” (The vocabulary of hatred seems to be quite limited.)
But the sight of us doing the unthinkable has many benefits: There are a few Jews who are happy and relieved to see us because it opens the door for them. They have felt uneasy about Israeli policies for a long time, and seeing us seems to give them more courage to speak their minds. There are also some gentiles who are happy to see us because they have been afraid for a long time of being called anti-Semites if they criticize Israel.

this is not an american issue, this is a Holy, Hebrew, Muslim, Christian issue. This is not the American peoples fight, we the America have lost too too many of our sons and daughters, and have spent too much money, and been accused of being Christians who Hate, way too much lately. This is above us and you should know it. If you want it to end pray, if you want it to end study the History book, and see what needs to be done to end it. This feud is not an American issue. Its time we heal our own issues here, we have dying and injured post tramatic children here that cant get proper health care. We have a war here stealing our parents and kids, called drugs, kiddie porn, and gun violence. What are the American Hebrews doing about these issues?

This is totally an American issue.

"The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the world’s major sources of instability. Americans are directly connected to this conflict, and increasingly imperiled by its devastation.
Although it is not often reported by the press, a large proportion of American diplomatic and military experts have long held that U.S. support of Israel is often contrary to and, in fact, extremely damaging to U.S. interests.
Support for Israel interferes with: American relations with the oil-producing nations, with whom we previously had friendly ties; with Muslim consumers, who represent 1.2 billion people world-wide; and removes much-needed money from domestic American requirements — tax revenues that could be addressed to domestic needs are instead sent abroad to prop up a system of discrimination that is antithetical to American principles of equality and democracy.
In addition, the ‘special relationship’ between the U.S. and Israel is increasingly imperiling American lives.
Why, then, is this done? Close examination of the history and current situation reveals that U.S. policies in the Middle East are rarely driven by U.S. interests. Rather, they are largely driven by two very different factors:
Special-interest lobbying of the sort that is common to Washington. The only difference from typical lobby groups is that this lobbying is on behalf of a foreign government. Fortune Magazine rates one of the many lobby organizations working on behalf of Israel, AIPAC, as the second most powerful lobby in Washington. In total, many experts rate the pro-Israel interest group as the most powerful lobby in Washington.
The efforts of a growing number of individuals with close ties to Israel (known as neoconservatives) who have attained key positions at high levels of the U.S. administration, State Department, and Pentagon.
Interestingly, the oil and weapons industries, although very influential over parts of American Middle East policy, are not responsible for our relationship with Israel. In fact, quite often both of these industries find our support for Israel undermines their corporate interests in the region."

The US should have been seeing this all along instead of helping Israel by sending them weapons of war. I think we all should fast for the sane reason , show our support in any way we can. Talked to a very good friend from Gaza and suddenly he has became very ill and not able to walk very well . Makes me wonder if its due to all the Chemicals that were in the air during the Israeli invasion of Gaza. . I won't mention my friends name . I just pray to god he gets better and gets through this without losing is life

actually if you study history we the US had supplied PALISTINE with weapons and tanks about 15-20 years ago, which after that they had partnered with Russia, and dont you think that Israel, has injured and dying children. all of this has been written about already. That 12 mile piece of land is the promised land for the Hebrews. The 3 groups living there will put an end to this soon.

as a side note...to all that had the outpouring of love and sympathy for this little girl shot by the Israeli Defense Forces in the White Flag Killings, several people and myself have started a fund for her. If you need more info, let me know and I will connect you to the US Government agency overseeing it for us. We want to make sure the money gets to those little kids. We did find out they were transported to a European country after much hard negotiations with the Israeli government and will be repatriated in Gaza with whats left of their family
