Changing dietary habits have turned Mexico into the fourth fattest country in the world. Mexico consumes more Coca Cola products per capita than anywhere else in the world. Its thanks to imbibing like this that Mexico’s most high-profile obesity case entered the Guinness book of records when he went on television to weigh in at 1,235 pounds.-

Coca Cola has high fructose corn syrup in it which is hypothetically assumed to make people gain weight by affecting insulum.

it is no longer "hypothetical" unless you are going the conspiracy theory route- and it is 'insulin'...

Stop sneaking BT corn into Mexico via NAFTA and killing their traditional varieties. Wherever people are " Americanized" they become obese. Connect the dots!

Ever been to Kansas City? It's like the fricking "parade of cows" but there are no cows. Fat and ugly is the norm. (and ignorant too) Whites and blacks alike are racists. They drive what they think are US made cars. (mostly) I'm seeing fewer "your import sucks" bumper stickers. Maybe because they are figuring out how stupid they look while broken down on the side of the road with me passing them in my VW bus. I want a bumper sticker that says, Well guess your American made car ain't so hot after all eh? But then again the assholes would bust my windscreen.

As a St. Louisan, I'd like to jump on the Kansas City hate bus (same state... you'd be surprised how many people don't know the bulk of it is on the MO side).
But moving on, I've been been there a few times and I couldn't disagree with you more. Kansas City is for lovers... and for people who like suburbia.

i think one of the main causes about mexico´s brutal obesity its the american gastronomical influence on our neighbor country. i mean, mexicans used to be really thin before all our us dream food shit arrived to their culture. shame on us, shame on US

This is interesting because the article states, its not the native fare that makes Mexicans overweight, its actually the same reasons the US is overweight. The shift from agriculture to the cities and access to processed foods, high in salt and fat, low in nutrition plus desk jobs =obesity epidemic

I know, right? Well put. One's first thought is refried beans, cheese, tortillas, fried foods. But, as I understand it, authentic Mexican food is generally pretty nutritious. It's the fast food lifestyle that's doing all the damage, mixed with the desk job. Folks just have to go the extra mile, buy quality foods and prepare meals themselves. It's really the only way to know, and control, what you're eating.

There is an obesity problem over there because of all the street food like tacos. They are extremely delicious but everything is fried from the meat to the tortillas but the problem also lies in that the grease isn't changed daily. Not to mention that there are cheek tacos, head tacos, brain tacos, tongue tacos, the list is endless.

Its so disgusting that the American business man will do anything for money. Since americans are finally being educated about all the crap that goes into fast food, snacks, drinks, etc., not to mention the cancer sticks, Our big corporations have to target countries that aren't aware of their EVIL PLOTS!

that's completely TRUEE!! we know the truth now so they're gonna attempt to expand to other places who remain unaware.
it pisses me off, especially the massive popularity of coke around the world. just slowly bringing the rest of the processed, mass-produced crap to them because of its "goodness" or "convenience".

You shouldn't need "third party" organizations to tell you that fast food or soda will make you fat. You should just wake up one day and realize, "Oh my God I'm fat as shit," or if you prefer, "DIOS MIO, YO SOY MUY GORDO." Stop eating so much, exercise.

pandaman coca cola is not bad for you if you don't drink 4 or 5 containers of it per day, or 150oz a day like the people have a problem with it. That qualifies as substance abuse. I'm sure that I drank that many cafe mochas per day I'd get fat too.
Whatever happened to common sense? And why are people so ignorant when it comes to nutrition and dietary moderation?

xiola, I'm sorry but there is something terribly wrong with a person that waits till they're 1300 lbs before they wake up and say, "Oh I think I need to get fit and lose some weight." Why wait until it gets to that point?

Hey, there, Mr. Question :)
Um, did I say I condoned this behavior? No. Did I state that I think this is a positive situation to be in? No. I said I don't think this person "feels fine about it." If you read the article, you understand that he's working to change the situation. I was clearing up a misunderstanding and wondering if the person who commented read the article (it is often the case that people comment without reading). This response of yours has nothing to do with my statement.
