TX Rep. claims baby would die in public option because current health care almost let him die

At a recent town hall meeting with Congressman Pete Olson (R-TX), the legislator recounted a story of "Brittney," who allegedly thinks that a not-for-profit, public health insurance policy would have somehow killed her baby.

Her child, still in the womb, was suffering from a heart defect and she was forced to search for a doctor after several had turned her down (she eventually found a specialist).

According to the Texas Republican, that means with President Obama's proposed insurance reforms, Brittney's child would have been essentially killed by the government.

"For those of you who say it's not true, don't talk to me, talk to Britney," Olson proclaimed over jeers and applause.

"That's not true," someone said.

Another man pointed out, "The insurance company turned her down, not the government! The private insurance turned her down, not the government!"

Some in the audience turned their heads and tried to shush the man.

"My God!" he said. "The doctors ... That's not the government! My God!"

One man replied: "The government is setting up a board to turn her down."

"Oh, there ya go," said the congressman's detractor. "A death panel."

Instead of addressing the rampant misinformation he'd just spread and heard repeated by his audience, Rep. Olson merely concluded, "I want to thank y'all for coming."

    • Is he actually implying that the Dr. could not have saved her child if we had national health care or at least a public option? His last two active brain cells must have been working overtime to come up with that line.

    • jon stewart said it best when he was comment on how a rep congressman said that3 out of 5 people while they have universal health care, going on by saying he obviously needs to redo is research b/c 5 out of those 5 people will die anyways. um and one thing i just don't see how a "not-for-profit" hospital isn't looking to cash in on killing people i just don't see how docs n nurses would do that its goes against what they are for.

      now health insurance companies on the other hand yeah they dont give a f*%k about anything except making a profit which was allowed under nixon and these people were are complaining even though seniors have to pay more for medications under our former president. any one noticing a trend???

    • He is soooo right, ethnic cleansing, it is happening. Kill our unborn, kill the undesirables, kill the feebleminded, warehouse our veterans designer babys from a dish, heal the elite, politician royality, heal the rich business, What job did Michelle Obama do at that hospital? oh ya kicking out and denying services to those who couldnt pay. Im wondering if she sits at the head of this table this is why she needs 26 aides.
