New research from the NSPCC has revealed a disturbing stat - a third of teenage girls have apparently been abused by their boyfriends.

According to the charity, a large number of girls said they'd been pressured or even forced into kissing or intimately touching their other half and 1 in 16 13-17 year olds said they'd been raped.

The University of Bristol's Professor David Berridge (who carried out the survey with the NSPCC) said: 'The high rate and harmful impact of violence in teenagers' intimate relationships, especially for girls, is appalling.

'It was shocking to find that exploitation and violence in relationships starts so young.

'This is a serious issue that must be given higher priority by policymakers and professionals.'

    • I do hope parents and teachers start teaching young girls that it's ok to talk about this and bring it to an adult's attention.
