…Around lunchtime, Turner had come home to eat and told his mom that he had stolen a couple of Hot Pockets from the store. A supervisor planned to get a district manager involved and he feared disciplinary action, she said.
She said she told him to go back to the store and face up to what happened.
It wasn’t long after lunch she got a call from one of her son’s co-workers, who told her about the incident, she said.
After Turner was hit, police called the Charlotte Fire Department and paramedics, department policy anytime an officer uses a Taser gun, the release said.
Homicide detectives are investigating Turner’s death and will present their findings to the district attorney, the news release said.

His mother was a dumb bitch and she should feel like shit for feeding her son to the wolverines. Same goes for any "tough love" sheep idiot. Leave your kids the fuck alone instead of nannying them to death. Stupid scary bitches.

how about, let go of your ego. an innocent kid was murdered by our law enforcement. if you actually considered the brevity of the situation, you wouldn't try to make strangers on the internet laugh at your pathetic attempt to amuse them. douche.

@ randolph the comment is funny, and it is funny because it demonstrates the absurdness of the police state and what they are willing to inflict upon those they are supposed to be protecting, over such petty things. Go bitch at somebody else.

I'll tell you what I propose officers carry...same damn thing they manage to protect their population with in the UK...a friggin nightstick, and maybe a badge of courage.
Every force in the United Kingdom, apart from the British Transport Police, has firearms trained officers available should the need arise. Got that...."should the need arise" which means they have to take the time to deliberate and decide whether or not they need weapons. Not so over here, it's deploy your weapon first, think about it later, after some 17-year-old is dead because he stole some hot pockets.
This country is beyond stupid sometimes.

They used to carry night sticks. Night sticks are worse. It's a whole lot easier to kill someone with a night stick and they are not nearly as effective.
The technique with a night stick is to strike perpendicular to the long muscles of the limbs and temporarily paralyze them. This lasts for seconds at best and it is very easy to miss.

Its the psychology of the situation in whole, not the use and/or misuse of any weapons......
Just take a look into the stanford experiment.....
We give police with already minimal oversight a "less than lethal weapon". They assume use of this weapon has little to no consequences based on this label. Overused and misused tasers have killed many many people.
You claim that if used properly a nightstick can cause paralysis, this is also the purpose of the taser. When properly trained a police officer knows to not shoot this weapon near major organs as it will most likely cause damage to them. Still there are many people who get shot in the chest and die of cardiac arrest.....
To have an officer with only a nightstick they are less inclined to use the weapon if they do not need to as it requires close contact. Therefore giving the officer incentive to diffuse the situation before using force. The nightstick is also a type of weapon that would not provoke an incident in minor situations that get out of hand (such as this one).
Anyone already upset will get more upset if such a weapon is pointed at them. Kind of like the russian guy who was killed in a similar fashion in an canadian airport because the airport did not have a translator.....

Mama Cass was killed by an egg salad sandwich. Should we make those illegal too? IIRC there is a movement to get peanuts banned.
If they're not able to use tasers the only other option is police batons. Tasers are better than police batons.
We don't know if it was cops on a power trip because the article doesn't say what actually happened.

Now there is a non-analogy. Unless someone fired the sandwich out of a rail gun at terminal velocity.

This article tells little of what, where and when. He came home with a few hot pockets, told his mom he stole them, she told him to go fess up. So did he go back to the store and fess up? If so, what happened next? What caused the store employee to call the cops if he fessed up and agreed to pay for them? What actually caused a cop to even pull out his taser let alone use it? Please re-post this story when more info comes out, I can't reply to who's at fault when I don't even know what happened.

As is so common in these stories the story stops before he returns to the store and starts after he was hit by the taser. Makes me wonder what happened in the missing time period.
Tasers remain one of the safest control methods but they are not perfect. I'm curious to know what caused his death. Seems young to have a pace maker. they'll probably have to do an in depth autopsy to figure it out.

Tasers are meant to be used in place of deadly force. Instead they are used whenever a cop feels like they want to use them. Im sure a 17 yr old turning himself in for stealing hotpockets poses a serious threat to a trained police officer......

If tasers are so safe, than why are their dozens of deaths every year as a result of tasers?

because, as I stated, they are not perfect. When police used batons there were deaths too. Physics is a harsh mistress.
