what better way of ruining her ex-husband's life was there than wreaking havoc by killing the girls?

A mother killed her two teenage daughters in frenzied knife attacks to 'wreak havoc' on her ex-husband's happy life, a court heard yesterday.

Rekha Kumari-Baker, 41, attacked Davina, 16, and 13-year-old Jasmine as they slept in separate bedrooms.
Davina woke and tried to fend off the blade. Defensive wounds were found on her fingers. But her sister never woke up.

Kumari-Baker then showered and took two trips out, once to buy petrol, before phoning a special constable friend to say what she had done.

Cambridge Crown Court heard how Kumari-Baker had divorced the girls' father, successful businessman David Baker, 44, in 2003 and he had gone on to find love with a new partner, Kadi Kone.

But her own life was in turmoil as her relationship with her long-term lover had floundered and she had lost her job as a hotel worker.

She was also said to resent the fact that Davina lived with her father and spent time with his new partner.

Prosecutor John Farmer told the jury the disappointments in Kumari-Baker's life may have propelled her towards a 'perfect storm'.

He said: 'Bearing in mind she hadn't made a success of her own life... what better way of ruining her ex-husband's life was there than wreaking havoc by killing the girls?'
The jury was told that Indian-born Kumari-Baker, of Stretham, Cambridgeshire, bought kitchen knives in Cambridge two days before the attacks.

On the same day, June 11, 2007, she took the girls on a shopping trip to 'soften them up' and ensure they stayed at her house that night and were 'available to be killed'.
The prosecution says she postponed her plan after Davina sent her a text message thanking her for the trip and adding: 'I love you with all my heart and always will.'
But Kumari-Baker repeated the shopping trip the next day, finally attacking the girls in the early hours of the following morning.

A few hours later she told Special Constable Natalie Boyes-Bartlett: 'The children are dead... I stabbed them with knives from the kitchen. This is terrible. At least the children are safe now. Nobody can hurt them.'

Describing the killings, Mr Farmer said: 'Either immediately before or during the attack, Davina woke up - but by then the defendant had geared herself up to go for it.
'Although her daughter resisted and tried to move away, she went on stabbing. It may be that the word " frenzied" is appropriate.'

Mr Farmer said Kumari-Baker inflicted 39 separate wounds on Davina's chest, back, arms and hands before moving on to Jasmine.

He said: 'The evidence shows there was some movement from Jasmine but not to the same significant degree as Davina.

'That's possibly why she was found with fewer stab wounds. But there were still an awful lot.'
The jury heard that Davina, who once auditioned for TV's The X Factor and had just started a job at Pizza Hut, had a history of 'unacceptable behaviour' which led to 'turbulence' between her and her mother.

Jasmine was also a troublemaker, although 'less so'.
A series of text messages between Kumari-Baker and her former partner, furniture business owner Jeff Powell, were read to the court, charting the demise of their affair.
He had started another relationship and dumped Kumari-Baker days before she attacked her daughters.

The court heard that two notes left at the scene said Kumari-Baker did not want the girls to suffer the same pain she was going through.
But Mr Farmer said if they were suicide notes she had made 'no serious attempt' to end her life.
Kumari-Baker denies two charges of murder.

    • To my mind, recent topic of cultural mis-tranposition (anything that blows limbs off this dummy called over-zealous relativism really ;) makes an enjoyable good splash. And so today I read something that made me laugh. I'll quote it, because I think there are minds who can appreciate it [as Jesus would say "Who is my mother and my brothers and sisters..."]:

"Consider the views of contemporary British people and how they differ from the views of their ancestors, the Anglo-Saxons, a thousand years ago. Imagine that both are reading the Bible and they come to the gospel of Mark, chapter 14. First they read that Jesus claims to be the Son of Man, who will come with angels at the end of time to judge the whole world according to his righteousness (verse 62). Later they read about Peter, the leading apostle, who denies his master three times and at the end even curses him to save his skin (verse 71). Yet later Peter is forgiven and restored to leadership (Mark 16:7; John 21:15ff). The first story will make contemporary British people shudder. It sounds so judgmental and exclusive. However, they will love the story about how even Peter can be restored and forgiven. The first story will not bother the Anglo-Saxons at all. They know all about Domesday, and they are glad to get more information about it! However, they will be shocked at the second story. Disloyalty and betrayal at Peter's level must never be forgiven, in their view. He doesn't deserve to live, let alone become the foremost disciple. They will be so appalled by this that they will want to throw the Bible down and read no more of it..."

one hope I have: the Good Lord tells me we will be surprised who really makes it. We all know what we have to do to "run the race" wherever we finally decide to. I have my own motes, and one thing I believe, some people pay a higher price to get there, even if it's generally a much cheaper fare to hell the devil is willing to give us that still sometimes temps the lot of us...i mean today's common man asks "why walk the proverbial narrow road when I have a free ride?" little knowing he IS the 'free ride'...

"Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it goes down smoothly. At the last it bites like a serpent And stings like a viper."
—Proverbs 23:31,32 and I don't think it's just about wine...

    • UPDATE
A mother who murdered her two daughters as they slept has been jailed for life and must serve a minimum of 33 years.
Her ex-husband said the killings were "an act of calculated viciousness".
The 33-year minimum sentence handed down at Cambridge Crown Court is one of the longest jail terms given to a woman in the UK in modern times.
David Baker, Kumari-Baker's ex-husband, said he had been "robbed" of his daughters.

    • Superbuggg, How often have we heard that a man who murdered someone with premeditation should be excused because he was on antidepressants? I have never heard such thing. Why the excuses for a woman kill her children? It's a mentality that women are victims and men are violent and abusers.
My heart goes out to the father who lost his two daughters.

    • The prospect that she was on SSRI antidepressants and may have developed murderous ideation and suicidal tendencies as a side effect must be considered! Her acts are unforgivable - we're all horrified but of course, no one in their 'right mind' would do such a thing... 'cept perhaps when you're on dope from the Doc.

Is is so sad! That rational makes no sense. If she didn't want them to suffer as she claims then she would not have stabbed them so many times. Sick & selfish. Hope she rots in jail.

    • How selfish and horrible for a parent to do this. These young girls had a human right to live and experience all that life has to offer.

Take her out back and put a bullet in her head.

    • Self centered, filled with ego and me, me, me, and I, I, I, and a mean, bitter and rotten, murderous scumbag filled with herself and her feelings and her life and her emotions and her anger. This selfish piece of dust did not just get back at her husband, she murdered two children and she guaranteed herself an eternity in hell besides the few years she has left in this physical world's hell, in prison.
Every day she goes on will be filled with self hate and regret. She killed herself too, but she has to live through this death. This is a powerless, weak, self involved piece of rotting garbage. Her prison cell should be lined with pictures of her children and many mirrors.

    • Wow.... how long will we as a society deny that women are violent before people take the warning signs into consideration?? These young girls had a very hard time dealing with their mother to the point that it affected their personal lives, still noone did anything to prevent this. Its a shame we have preconceptions based on gender that allow such things to go so far......

    • Gee, I can't imagine why the original marriage didn't work out? They need to convict her psychotic hateful ass and throw her in general population with her story running on a continuous loop throughout the prison.

Wow. Talk about a terminal narcissist. Safe? Well, that's a stretch. How do relationships come to this?
