Racist? Watermelon Soda Sold In Target

AllThingsHarlem
One of our producers visited this Target on 225th St., in New York City and made an interesting discovery. In the beverage aisle he found this soda with a black girl eating watermelon on a can. It reminded us of the caricatures of America's racist past.

We took to Target's parking lot and in front of their store to poll customers. We showed them historic Picaninny images then revealed this product and how it can be found on shelves right now at their local Target.

    • This is so dumb. They have a black girl and a white guy on a can of water melon flavored soda and people freak out? Don't buy the soda if you are so offended by the outside of it. Just by not allowing any images of black people consuming these products your are perpetuating the idea that black people love watermelon. As it stands this is a privately owned product and you have no say over what is on the outside of the can. You can "protest" by not buying the soda. Furthermore if you call wolf constantly, no one will be listening when a real incident occurs.
