The question now is about the cargo. Originally reported as timber, some have started asking whether the cargo was something a bit more sensitive. Like missiles. For Iran.
True/Slant has a great rundown of the key events along the timeline.

Its was full of Arms for Iran and was boarded by the SAS thats a known fact. I was told this from a Captain of another ship that was sailing in the same area at the time of it happening and all the captians in the same area where reporting and had seen it happen.

Yeah... I for one, and I am sure many others realize that too freecrack, it is after all less of a spin than you get with most American media though... left or right... besides, if you just ignore the original angle you can point out the real relevance to the others.

There is a very real reason why this is not getting a lot of press coverage, and that is the pentagon does not want it to. We have been battling the Russian front in Middle East since we re entered it in 2002, and it is slowly becoming less clandestine which is... well not good... this is the very early signs of what could be another cold war between the United States and Russia... except this time China may have a heavy hand in it as well... the real problem comes when you look at the fact that it has the very real possibility of not staying cold with the Iranian nuclear issue at the fore front.
China and Russia have also recently been partaking in joint action military games... I really wish there was more knowledge of geopolitics and strategy running around on this site... it is incredibly important and highly ignored... which is very very bad.

MilchMann:
Books by Brzezinski or Henry Kissinger are good starts.
I personally feel that Kissinger has exacerbated more than he has solved... but that is really a matter of opinion.
I would suggest reading the Grand Chess Board by Brzezinski first.
Those two will explain the global interests down to a T. From there it really is up to what you are interested in, I am super into the strategic development side, so I like classic strategy books like 'On War' by Clausewitz and other such works... others like to focus on the political/public manipulation side... which you should look at Robert M. Gates... and Former President Bush Sr. Neither have published much though, probably something to do with the CIA backgrounds =D
if you are left leaning you will probably agree with Breziznski and Gates more.
If you are right leaning you will probably appreciate Kissinger and Bush.
In truth though, both sides are in agreement, they only differences are policies... which are both geared toward the same goals... Policy differences on how to handle Iran are a perfect example... both sides have implemented do or die deadlines... and are sticking to them, so the results are almost always the same. The left just prefers the option of dialog and minimal antagonization instead of pure squeeze...

you also have to pay attention to foreign news a lot, US news is BS.
My favorite site as of late is this
I read this on there several days ago, and had known about the Israeli presidents comments since last month because of that site.

First of all, your story is incorrect, the ship was seized in the Baltic Sea... suggesting it would have to be Estonian pirates... it was then intercepted off the coast of Cape Verde... that is not where it was supposedly hijacked though.
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gGMWEnaCdQQYsfVwZJjeIVkgLzgQD9...
The actual facts of the story are a lot weirder than you might imagine.
The crew is being quarantined from the public, and after the ship was intercepted 3 heavy lift cargo planes were sent to pickup "the crew and 8 hijackers" ...
This is a quote from the AP article...
"Israeli President Shimon Peres held talks in Moscow with President Dmitry Medvedev two days after the Arctic Sea was taken by the Russian navy. He said after the meeting that Medvedev had promised to reconsider selling S-300s to Iran."
There was a jpost.com (a Jerusalem news paper) article on this, but the link seems to be having some malfunctions... thank god for Google cached sites =D

Note: You may need to either copy and past that link into your browsers navigation bar, or search Google for the the site and click on the cached link next to the article.

I read it was intercepted by Israeli Musaud and that they used it to pressure the Russians to slow down their business with the Iranians.
