It would appear Rifqa Bary has been exposed as a fraud. Authorities in Florida have found no evidence to support Bary's allegations that she faced any threat what so ever from her parents for her conversion to Christianity. With her dramatic allegations, Bary became a celebrity in the Christian world, a symbol of the evil Islamic threat, and a poster child in the culture wars.

Florida authorities who investigated Fathima Rifqa Bary's safety have found no evidence that she was threatened with death by her Muslim father for converting to Christianity. Investigators with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement also failed to find any credible evidence of abuse.

    • Here is a link to a story in which a 12 year veteran of the FBI looks at the report prepared by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement concerning Ms. Bary. His analysis and the report are presented. Reading both of them yields insight as to whether she is a precocious Muslim teenager in America who fears for her life because of her apostasy or just another precocious teenager playing her parents to get what she wants.

In the report, the father claims that there is no such thing as honor killing under Islamic law. The comment of Mr. Bary are most telling.

All religious interpretation is subjective. A case may just as easily be made that the Bible calls for the stoning to death of a disrespectful child.

Fact is, his muslim beliefs are not on trial, this is wether or not he has threatened his daughters life, and if her claim is credible based on her parents ACTIONS.

    • While there are legitimate concerns there is a growing problem of false accusations in our society. Just in the recent news, an 11 year reported that he was kidnapped by a man only to find out he lied to cover up his bad report card, a teen reported rape by boy in her school so she would not get in trouble for skipping school. Lucky these cases where proven to be lies. There are many where not so lucky and gone too far sending innocent people to prisons. In all of these cases many innocent people are investigated and their lives are publicly and emotionally ruined.
This issue is not uncommon as many believe and often are not publicized. We have some bad laws and corrupt procedures and law enforcement agencies. There are cases of teens reporting child abuse or rape by their parent or step-parent because the teen is not allowed to party and rebel against parents and parental discipline. I have heard first-hand horror stories of a teen girl who blackmailed her parents with domestic abuse and rape charges in order to get her way. And in fact has reported her parents to Child Protective Services. This family was devastated and never recovered.
There are also numerous cases of false domestic abuse, false rape during custody battles. Unlike murder cases, domestic violence and sex charges do not require evidence or proof that crime was committed. Our law only requires a "victim" statement and innocent person is sent to prison. I encourage people to research this growing problem, Domestic Violence laws and VAWA laws, as well as research Child Protective Services in your state. It is truly disturbing. These laws are created to protect real victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and rape. But unfortunately there are no check and balance to protect innocent and falsely accused as well as many real victims of abuse also suffer from bad laws and corrupt system.

Yes what you say is true. However, there are documented honor killings in the west including Canada and the US. These murders involve girls just like this. Maybe she is just a precocious teenager but she fits the pattern for an honor killing and that is why people are raising the concern.

And here we are with dilemma, making laws easy to incarcerate innocent or taking a chance and have a victim of honor killing. How wide spread are honor killing? I think in numbers it does not compare to widely spread false accusation and prosecution of the innocent.

Comparing the number of honor killings related to the number of claims by precocious Muslim teenage girls in America that they might become the victims of one is an interesting juxtaposition. However, it does presuppose that honor killings are real.

I agree with your point about teenagers being teenagers, but again this example mirrors the cases in which girls have been killed by male members of their family.

    • Why would you lie about something like this? What do you gain? Will it be worth it compared to what you lose when they find out?

    • This is about Sharia law. Look into it. I hope she does not become the latest "honor killing" victim in the US. It is happening here and it is ugly.

Do you remember the woman beheaded at the TV station in Buffalo by her husband?

    • Some of these comments are quite bigoted, and what is funny is that they come from Christians, who are every bit as bat shit crazy as the Muslims.

    • jh64487, this is how I see it, this girl decided to publicly shame her parents and her lies could have potentially bring abuse charges against her parents.
"...appear Rifqa Bary has been exposed as a fraud."
"…Florida Department of Law Enforcement also failed to find any credible evidence of abuse."
"...her parents, her father, deserve an apology. His only crime is being the father to a tempestuous and attention hungry 17 year old daughter."

    • And in the bible, witches are supposed to be burned at the stake. Odd how we don't do everything that those religious texts tell us we need to do.
