All Free Library of Philadelphia Customers,

We deeply regret to inform you that without the necessary budgetary legislation by the State Legislature in Harrisburg, the City of Philadelphia will not have the funds to operate our neighborhood branch libraries, regional libraries, or the Parkway Central Library after October 2, 2009. (http://libwww.freelibrary.org/closing/)

I believe we need to be funding educational outlets like public libraries because reading and learning spark new ideas and concepts that could be beneficial to society. What's going on, where are the priorities?

    • This is happening in Philadelphia RIGHT NOW. The city will need to cut 3,000-5,000 essential city personnel on October 2nd. This includes 1,000 Police and Fire Fighters, the ENTIRE LIBRARY SYSTEM, the ENTIRE RECREATION DEPARTMENT and TWO HEALTH CENTERS.

    • If removing social programs is the best way to help the budget crisis, what do you do when everything's privatized and you can't find a job?

This is sad, we'll be in the dark ages in no time. Capitalism has run a muck.
