Noisy bikers won't get off their high Hogs

This case of swine flu is worse than any of us could have imagined. Like any infection, if you pick at the symptoms, sometimes they get irritated. Sometimes, they even get inflamed.

I am talking specifically about the plague of bikers - Hog riders, in particular - loudly trolling the suburbs over the summer on gasoline-powered Whoopee cushions, not giving a care about who they bother with their obnoxious throttle-rapping.

    • Listen people, do not get mad at me because I am passing you the right information about an issue you must change. What really saves lives is to drive within the speed limits, obey road signs and to not dangerous swerve in between cars blind spots.

    • um...loud motorcycles save lives, to a certain point. It's more difficult to see a motorcyle than a car when driving, compensation comes from hearing that motorcycle to alert you to its presence.

excessive volume (intentionally/destructively loud) should be punishable by a fine of course. there's no need to be a dick about it hunzedog, some people really do intentionally put on painfully loud pipes.

Loud pipes save lives is a myth jh64487 an hoax justification and is an argument that do not stick in Court because it has never been proved it actually save lives. Even if saves lives still not right! It is that case of the guy that needs money so he went to the bank and rob the bank to get it. People with loud pipes actually are putting their own lives at risk as one of these days a bullet can catch up with him so where is the safety? There is something very wrong about loud pipes and like I said before some people will only get it when it is too late. it is simple as this Stop violating other people rights!

    • I ride, and while I do like a beefy exhaust, I do not run ridiculously loud pipes. A couple guys I ride with bust my chops, but I refuse to remove my baffles as I personally do not want to be rude to other people. My pipes are a little louder, but within reason. That being said, until they also start banning those obnoxious leaf blowers people should shut the hell up about bikes. Those things are just as annoying plus they blow the users crap all over their neighbors property. Talk about neighborhood trolls.

You are right about the leaf blowers. They are both bad for the environment and people as pathogens get throw in the air. They also pollute big time on fuel and noise. Some localities already ban their use. However one issue do not justify the other but you can start to work to install the original mufflers in your bike before a PO stops you and ask for the EPA label. It is much better when people do things voluntarily before the obligation. The obligation is a lot more expensive. Noise is a health issue that affects many things physically, to number a few, high blood pressure that leads to stress that leads to lack of rest and sleep that leads to heart attacks that leads to premature death. America slept on Noise Education because of Reagan's Administration negligence but we are fixing his mistakes and it is only about a time before you will get the real picture. Do not come back and tell me that I did not warn you! You are having plenty of warnings! Too many actually!

    • What IS the need for big, loud pipes? Trying to be cool? Or are they overcompensating for some other lack of endowment?

My town has a noise ordinance as well, but it is not enforced.

    • The EPA has a label mach program to cure any bikers desire to corrupt the laws.

      http://noiseoff.org/motorcycles.php

      Go down to Legal Considerations

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets noise emissions standards for motorcycles. The standard for street-legal exhaust noise emissions is 80 dB(a). All motorcycles are required to display an EPA label on the chassis and exhaust pipe. The "label match-up" program was designed as regulatory measure for states and municipalities to control motorcycle noise.

    • My hometown has a noise ordinance for car stereos... not for bikes. People that enjoy loud music in their cars aren't American? Where's my freedom of speech?

There is a big difference between freedom of speech and trespassing other people property with an energy such as noise. Like I said before; in question of noise, one right ends when the rights of others begin. Just because one do not know does not excuse them from the Court fines. On noise issues, do not even mention freedom of speech to a Judge. That won't stick in Court. You will lose the case pronto!

    • You think you have it bad I live right across the street from a bike shop. I have to listen to the Noise at all hours of the day and night. It could be worst the guy works mostly on croch rockets. They still have after market exhaust that are louder than hell.

You should get together with concerned neighbors and research your zoning laws at City Hall, Planning Department. I am remembering reading a story of a couple that fought and close a shop of hod hot loud mufflers. Other place to look is the health department. If not corrupted, they can enforce the laws.
