Keeping America's breadbasket from drying up

Right now, America's Bread Basket relies on an aquifer that's nearly drained. And, many say, it will dry up if farmers keep pumping water from it at the current rate. Devin Browne reports the government plans to pay farmers as one way to get them to cut water use.

I find it a shame that people need to be paid to do the moral thing.

    • People who think the same type of drought now hitting Kenya can't hit us in the US need to think again. We are producing too much with too much waste all for profit that will also run out once the water does. It simply is not sustainable.

    • And this is the same aquifer T.Boone Pickens wanted to suck out to sell its fossil water to Texas through eminent domain, thus hitting the farmers even harder. Not hard to spot him as the greenwasher he really is. Outrageous.
