    • Well it would be a hell of a lot cheaper to actually reign in the tobacco companies than to keep paying for all the death and disease they are creating, and the thing is, it is mostly the additives in cigarettes that are killing people. People have been rolling up tobacco leaves and smoking them forever, but the tobacco companies have figured out how to manufacture death much more efficiently with what they do to cigarettes.

    • Because this is AMERICA, the land of the FREE!!!!

Just like John and others ask, where does it stop? Because Joe lives in the city where air quality sucks, should he not receive as full of coverage like someone in a rural area?

Also, the figures for deaths from tobacco are skewed. If a smoker gets cancer, it's blamed on tobacco. There's no way to determine if their cancer was caused by 30 years working in a chemical plant. It will be blamed on the nations new red-headed step child, tobacco.

    • there are three sorts of people in this country.
The Producers every one with a job or a business.
The Looters which is the goverment.
The moochers every one who lives of the goverment.
Just add the smokers to the rest of the moochers its the american way tax the producers a little more they stole that money by working 80hrs a week anyway.

very simplistic argument...rather dull and unimaginative. There are many more types of people than what your ignorant little observation allows for. Now bees, maybe, but even that would be a stretch.

    • it says right on the box it gives you cancer. ;they should be illegal. you should get a fine if caught with cigarettes.
they kill people ! and i should not have to pay for other peoples mistakes ! half a million people die every year for alchohol and tobacco. you only loose 45.000 people each year to the lack of insurance. it would make more sence to me to not cover people who smoke or drink. heck a simple hair test will tell if you qualify.

    • Why not? How do we segregate those with bad habits? What will we do about boozers? Some people don't eat enough, and are thin, Then there the hogs that eat everything in sight. How can we figure who drives too fast and may get in an expensive accident. What about drug abusers? Don't be forever looking at ways to exclude people, or feel superior.
