An Afghanistan-born Colorado man arrested in connection with a terrorism probe will be held in jail without bail, a judge ruled Monday.
Najibullah Zazi, 24, an airport shuttle driver, appeared in federal court in Denver on charges of lying to the government in a terrorism investigation. He is scheduled to return to court at 9 a.m. Thursday for a more extensive hearing on his detention.
FBI affidavits say police found bomb-making instructions on Zazi's computer and notes in Zazi's handwriting on how to make explosives.
Zazi says he was visiting his wife when he traveled to Pakistan but admitted training with al-Qaeda, the court papers say. He told FBI agents he accidentally downloaded the bomb instructions while reading a religious text but deleted it when he saw it discussed "jihad," the affidavit says.
Zazi has publicly denied being involved in a terror plot. Defense lawyer Arthur Folsom rejected as "rumor" the idea that he played a key role.
