Harsh Floods hit Southern States

Stunning video from the area as sustained rains have flooded many communities. Many schools and roads are still closed (and as you could guess from the video - so is Six Flags Over Georgia). At least nine deaths have been blamed on the flooding thus far, according to the AP.
Not so long ago we were tracking a completely different story as Atlanta was wracked by drought. For much of 2007 and 2008, Atlanta was in peril of running out of water as the two lakes which feed the city dried up. This spring, Atlanta Water Shortage, a blog set up to track the drought, reported that Lake Lanier was too full - and needed to be drained. I'm sure the lake is far more full now.
Activists for global warming awareness say that this sort of wild variation in weather patterns is something we can come to expect. Are you down there in Georgia? Let us know how you're doing. Could the state handle a swing back and forth like this every couple of years?

What of the people that don't have flood insurance and live (Now) in a flood zone?
it really sucks that it is all a matter of what coverage you have.
I think the government is better off having a special account that people put money into that can cover any thing from Car to home to health and the money is only ever used for such instances and the money stays untouched for so many months the rate goes up so that the money can start to make money and therefore be a supple amount when needed.

MMMMM, strawberry milk shake... me wants.
On another note, can we label the Governor of Georgia a socialist now?
Oh, and fire your damned civil engineers over there... there is absolutely no reason for 20" of rain to turn into torrents in the middle of the streets like that...

India and Egypt used to do quite well in drought/flood cycles. These cycles do not have to be a burden. It is how we react to these events that will dictate the outcome, not the events themselves.

Jesus, Jesus does tornados. Jesus does floods and hurricanes, too. SOME SAY, that Jesus sent Katrina to New Orleans because of the strippers and gays in the French Quarter. Jesus also healed the sick and poor. Jesus would be pro-healthcare reform. Jesus would be pissed that we(America) are the only world power that makes a profit off of sick people. The floods in the GA and TX are "tea bagger" induced rage from above. Jesus hates "tea baggers"!!!!

Hey guys--
Looks like the two of you are starting to go back and forth. Just wanted to remind you to keep things on topic. This thread is starting to stray off topic, so let's reign it back it and keep the discussion focused on the flooding in the southeast.
Thanks
Steph

wow john a and J Jammer. same shit different day. WTF? are you serious? this is typical of you Jammer. so are you saying the outpouring of aid and sympathy for the victims of katrina was racist? i wont hold my breath waiting for an answer of course. at least not an answer to my question, as i'm sure there will be some condescending remark posted within minutes.
again with the blanket assumptions. you've broken your "rule" again.
here's a better rule that you might follow.
never assume.

My thoughts and my prayers go out to everybody in the Southeast. The Woman in the beginning was right: Why are children still going to school with this horrible flooding going on?

Some people don't have insurance because they were not in a flood zone.
More proof that insurance is a pathetic waste of time and money and if it didn't exist things would be cheaper to fix.

I'm shocked anyone at current could care about what happens in southern states. Al must have put them up to it, they did mention Tennessee. Still left out Mississippi, thanks. Maybe when the next Katrina comes in.

Yeah. ha. They could care less what happens to the South, because then they'd lose Republicans and conservatives. They'll keep their power the more they'd lose. That's how deep their hate is.
/mocking sarcasm for the racist comments made by democrats.

Politics is more important as well as Obama. Who cares what happens to the South.
Ohnose more sarcasm. I should stop.
