In 1989 the City of Denver passed a law banning pit bulls. If you are caught with one of these dogs, within Denver city limits, you are fined and your dog is impounded to await euthanization. Since the early 90s 5300 dogs have been impounded, of which 3500 have been killed under this city ordinance.
