And You Thought They Were Going to Legalize Marijuana...NOT!

Image
Incredulous
The National Institute of Drug Abuse has set aside $3,000,000 to "support research studies that focus on the identification, and preclinical and clinical evaluation, of medications that can be safe and effective for the treatment of cannabis-use and -induced DISORDERS, as well as their medical and psychiatric consequences."

"Cannabis-related disorders (CRDs) including cannabis abuse or dependence and cannabis induced disorders (e.g., intoxication, delirium, psychotic disorder, and anxiety disorder) are a major public health issue. Cannabis use includes marijuana, hashish, and other tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) containing substances."

Looks like they are going to spend 3 million dollars creating a drug to heal the DISORDERS created by the best drug the planet ever gave us. We have to keep Big Pharma happy...at whatever cost, and that means we need to turn cannabis use into a major public health issue.

Once again, NOT the change people voted for.

    • Pot is GOOD and the government lies about it. We must make up for this with positive information and state rights to medicinal. Voice up to legislators and editors.
Prohibition is a civil rights violation. We have equal rights to pot as there exists for alcohol, tobacco, and herb tea.

    • If you actually thought that the Obama administration was going to legalize Marijuana you are high too damn much. Seriously he did about as much as he could; cutting Federal aid to drug enforcement. He can't rewrite the laws. That is up to Us. Maybe smoke a little less and vote more? Or if the issue is that important to you throw your stash my way and join the ranks of the very few but important pro pot politicians.

P.S. Too much of a good thing can be harmful.

Yes but, all use does not mean abuse. Group punishment is not the answer. The only way things will change, will come from education. Ordinary Americans do not realize they have been spun. They do not realize what they were told was willfully misleading. Our politicians knew cannabis was not what people were being told, yet they used it for political gain.

How can they admit it? They spun false facts and spin, for their own political gain. "War on Drugs"? They knew cannabis hemp should not be classified the same as heroin and cocaine, yet they remained silent. Many times ignoring the facts, while using it as a political tool. How's that working out for us? We have more people in prison than any other country in the world. Many due to non-violent crimes.

Senator Jim Webb is supposed to be involved in changing our prison system. He has stated, nothing is off the table. I take him at his word. I hope I can trust him? If he examines the prison system and explores facts, I'm sure he will realize, the war on cannabis is causing much of our prison problems.

Hell, our prison system is sooo large, they have started privatizing our prisons. Soon they will have the nerve to say it out loud. They can't change the drug laws, it would hurt the prison industry. That's just sad!

Where are the voices of reason? Where are the people with voices that could be heard, standing up for change. The war on cannabis must change. The conversation must happen. Facts should not be hidden! If the facts can't stand on their own, they should not stand. The facts are against the war on cannabis! It's time to talk!

    • WOW!
      $3,000,000 dollars on research!
on top of the millions spent on the war on marijuana? You don't have to be high to be confused by this. The big argument is "If It's legal people will just grow their own and we can't tax it." Yeah right we live in the great US OF A give us convenience or give us death. Besides that if its legal it will lose major cool points and possibly a large portion of its users. Ritalin and other prescription drugs don't cause psychiatric disorders?

    • Remember... If you legalize marijuanna, you don't need as many Police Officer, Border patrols, Fences, etc. Legalization isn't the issue, it's turf/funding control.

Is that TAX dollars? Insanity at it's finest, I won't say that marijuana can't potentially cause some people minor problems. But the negative actions of people have been highly exaggerated, when it comes to marijuana. All these so called psychological disorders can't be proven to be linked solely to marijuana, in the majority of cases.

And all the PROVEN benefits greatly outweigh, some already (mentally) ill person misusing a valuable medicine.

This is outrageous, Big Pharma has found another way to acquire tax dollars, on a study that supports their cause.

There needs to be a national vote on this issue, it should be on the very next nation wide ballot, and it needs to be highly publicized.... The people need to decide marijuana legalization, and if it's made legal, Big Pharma can STFU and quit insisting on robbing the people to support their industry...

      that is TAX dollars

and it is your right, your responsibility if you are an American citizen, to let your representatives know how you want them to spend, and more importantly, how you want them NOT to spend your tax dollars.

    • Follow the link to find the facts. Jack Herer's book of facts is available to read for free on the internet. The book "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" is backed up with documentation to back up the facts.

The war on drugs, gives no real excuse for ignoring facts. They refuse to even discuss the issue. I think it's cause the facts are against them. It's easier to spin shit, than to deal with those pesky facts. Facts be damned.

    • I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. I think big pharma is just looking to the future. There are medications out there to treat alchoholism and such, so why wouldn't they attempt the same with this substance?

Maybe this should be a good thing for the movement. If big pharma thinks they can make money off of it, then they could push for legalization so they can make more money.

Big Pharma is already making money off of it. It's called Marinol. That's why they don't want it legalized. They want to control who makes profit off of it. It's a plant that's easy to grow, cultivate, and doesn't cost that much if you have your own farm to use it or provide it for medicinal uses.

I see the same kind of fights going on with any other kind herbal treatment that's natural and has no side effects compared to what Big Pharma provides (toxic bullshit)

    • Sad, they are ignoring a possible road to victory, while supporting the madness! 'Reefer Madness' is just that, madness.

When one looks at the possibilities of cannabis for medicine and hemp for industry, it makes one wonder, 'what are they thinking?'. Money, money, money! Follow the money and you find the madness.

    • Isn't it ironic, they agree on a topic, which has hurt so many ordinary Americans? They won't even have a real discussion about the facts. They just follow along regardless of facts. It's all politics. Unfortunately, the 'war on cannabis' has enriched the coffers of both sides. Money talks. Big money talks louder.
