They do have kidneys for sale in some countries and this destroys the black market. Black markets exist when something is either illegal or the restrictions placed upon a market are so restrictive as to force one into existence. Whether alcohol during prohibition, prostitution, or illegal drugs black markets and all of their associated violence and corruption exist because they are illegal not in spite of their illegality. When prohibition ended so did the gang violence associated with it, when prostitution was legalized in Las Vegas so to did all the associated violence, when drugs where legalized or decriminalized in various countries so did their associated violence.

Thanks for the Drew Carey/Reason video.
In this case, it seems people (those in need of organ transplants) are being harmed by the supply artificially being kept low by well-intentioned laws, particularly because it makes organ transplants unaffordable for so many people.I think libertarians would help themselves more if they would explain what they think should be done to make things better (like Carey did in the video) instead of just repeating talking points. Of course, you could say the same for adherents of other political beliefs.

yeah, the price of kidneys will go up from "wait until one is available in a corrupt system,if you are lucky enough to not die by them" to some price. At least one can ask for charity to buy one, instead right now people die because although available and people are willing to sell, it is illegal.
Plus, do you honestly think that rich people don't get organ transplants now? At least the rest of us would get a chance!
As far as me or you making the decision for them... what are you talking about?! If they decide, how could I have decided then?
And how does this make sense : free market of all organs will create a black market of organs?
Seriously... how? There is only a black market when the market is regulated!!!! - 2 years ago

Instead of considering it a sale, money should be paid as compensation for all of the savings incurred by insurance companies and the government for the expenses saved for dialysis.
There should just be a reasonable set rate to compensate donors. Make that the law. Rich people are going to skirt the law anyway, like they do now, but it gives poor a middle class people a fighting chance at getting a kidney.

I suspect it would cause more problems than it would solve in the long run. I'm not sure if I would appose it being legal though.
I would not have another persons organ transplanted in my body. Death is the natural result of life.

They have to offer compensation for people to give up a kidney.....asking apparently doesn't work.
Selling isn't what I'm stating either. Because that means someone will make it a higher price for someone that's richer and that's stupid.

Health care has a predatory business model, regulation and socialization (shared load) is indeed realistic if it isn't a business anymore but belonging to everyone and as such everyone's responsibility.
Double/triple the staffing and access to resources (namely education) and employment costs can be reduced
Produce medicine and R&D with non profit originated goals and you begin to reduce the propriety of technology/technique (thus reducing cost as competition is irrelevant)It will only work if we ALL own it soup to nuts. But adapting what we have now to a payment plan that is sure to fail once the "free market" ups the price for services and materials because they have an increased ceiling is pointless.

Public goods places no accountability on anyone and social-loafing is the consequence. Only through competitive markets (unlike what we have today which is a government backed oligopolized insurance system) can we cut costs, reduce shortages, and increase quality. The reason our health care is on the decline is because its a crippled market, and the politicians keep making it worse on both sides of the aisle. What we need is less bureaucrats in our health care.

A right to health care is not realistic.

It is time for the People to stop this incrementalism that has been slowly building up this protected industry around us. We need to obey the 10th amendment and stop unconstitutional, inefficient, slave systems.

Our health decisions need to be returned to the People, not to bureaucracies and central planners. That is what brought about kidney prohibitions and rationing.

We need to end the current government oligopolized insurance system that protects big industries and discourages competition while raising prices.
