One hour documentary, click on link above....
From freedocumentaries.org web site:
""Big Bucks, Big Pharma" pulls back the curtain on the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical industry to expose the insidious ways that illness is used, manipulated, and in some instances created, for capital gain. Focusing on the industry's marketing practices, media scholars and health professionals help viewers understand the ways in which direct-to-consumer (DTC) pharmaceutical advertising glamorizes and normalizes the use of prescription medication, and works in tandem with promotion to doctors. Combined, these industry practices shape how both patients and doctors understand and relate to disease and treatment. Ultimately, "Big Bucks, Big Pharma" challenges us to ask important questions about the consequences of relying on a for-profit industry for our health and well-being."
"In my opinion this is the best made film on our site today regarding the persvasiveness of drug companies in our every day lives. The film starts with narration by the famed journalist Amy Goodman but lets the interviews themselves narrate the film later on. Though this film doesn't address the subject directly, if you want to know why the United States doesn't provide universal healthcare, I think that you should watch this movie. Why should we have free or inexpensive healthcare if the current system is so profitable?!"

This finding was back in 2007, since then they have received enough private donations to start small scale human trials. The compound is already used for a few other maladies and is actually something most of us ingest on a daily basis.
The compound is a by-product of drinking water chlorination and so we all ingest trace amounts of it.
Its somewhat rough to blame corporations for putting money ahead of morals, if they were to act altruistically in all their decisions they wouldnt be around for very long.

sounds like the plot behind V for Vendetta. If they are putting money before other people's wellfare then they do not deserve to work in pharmaceuticals. I'd love to see a cancer patient ask them why they won't help them.

thats just another reason not to trust the fda and mandated healthcare. get them out of the equation and we can talk about healthcare reform .

I passed this along to a friend who is a venture capitalist for a large non-profit that doesn't need to make money, but has the 100 million. Hopefully for my friends with cancer, it will be picked up.

This is the reason,in all my posts on health care,I make a point of saying that these drug companies must be brought under control.all these companies care about is profit.like the tobacco companies,as the old customers die off,new ones emerge! The cost of drugs in this country disgusts me! profit before lives is the motto drug companies function by!

This has been around for awhile and apparently the study that showed DCA was safe in humans was done on subjects that died from their non-cancer illnesses anyway so it wasn't a true evaluation of DCA long term safety in humans Dr. Len Lichtenfeld's of the ACS spoke about this back in 2007. I'm not saying this stuff might not work I'm just saying it might not be a perfect wonder drug.
"one underlying theme stood out: DCA is an organic chemical that causes liver cancer in laboratory mice when put in their drinking water".
"So before you start going out and adding DCA to your drinking water to prevent cancer, a degree of caution would be very prudent at this point".

Depressing, unless they make pharmaceutical companies profit the drugs that can cure us of cancer and illness will never be allowed on the market. We need to change this and get private organizations to fund research on DCA, Marijuana and THC, Hallucinogens, and exotic herbs like kava kava or kratom. These are drugs with minimal side effects and MANY positive attributes but can't be sold because the FDA and Drug companies won't research them properly.
People are dying and suffering because of this ignorance and greed. - 2 years ago

Corperate Intrests do not care about the people that they are suposed to searve. The only thing is to line the pockets of the very powerfull, and keep a central core of the elite happy with the way things are. Conservitives unite, kill all the little people and keep the rest for yourselves.

More crapitalism. This is exactly why there should be a single payer system. Humanitarian healthcare for all is what we need. Get rid of the special interests who want people to be sick so they can make money off of other people's misery and pain. Perhaps Dr. Evangelos Michelakis could contact the "Race for the Cure" foundation and see if he could get any results in the financing department. We need to emphasize prevention. As soon as you move the goal to a 'cure', there is a certain implication that it's OK to get cancer, that we accept cancer (and all the polluting industries that are causing it). I do not accept cancer, it is preventable, and people need to be educated as to how to decrease their exposure to cancer causing pollutants. The government (of the people, by the people and for the people) should not allow polluting industries that make us sick to continue operation. The EPA should start doing it's job and protect the people and the environment.

So you think that single-payer lobbyists are somehow different than the other lobbyists? You actually believe that slavery is compassionate? The current system we have today has NOTHING to do with free market capitalism and has everything to do with negative externalities that give protectionism to big insurance companies. Worst of all, both big parties are in bed with it. The politicians and bureaucrats in government are not altruistic and do not understand economics. The last thing we need is a giant unconstitutional monopoly when much more efficient spending could be had at a state level. This whole idea that what we have today is capitalism if a fallacy and ignores decades of incrementalism! The EPA will never do its job to your standards no matter how much money you throw into it just like we will never spread liberty through force and arms like Obama and Bush. This whole centralized coercive monopoly has been crippling us for years, the last thing we need is another misstep in the direction of slavery. Open on the market for health care, stop centralizing it to bureaucrats, that is where the corporate power structure comes from along with the military industrial complex. This whole idea that free health care for all is plausible through coercive monopoly structures is against basic economics and it a step towards totalitarianism.

OK...got an idea....if 25 million people donated 4 dollars, or 12 million people donated 8 dollars, they'd have enough money to get the research done.
