Plans to legalise two-thirds pint measure

Government unveils proposals for a new imperial glass size - but claims it will not replace traditional pint

Pubs will soon be able to offer a two thirds of a pint measure under new government plans.

The proposal for a new imperial glass size comes after pressure from the pub trade to allow more flexibility in serving draught beer and cider – particularly higher strength versions.

However the government has moved to reassure people the measure will not replace the traditional pint.

There is something very British about buying your beer or lager in a pint glass, what will be next, 1 and a half shoes, 4/5 of a car?

If it is not broke, dont fix it.

    • Wait, so is this implying that it is currently illegal to sell 2/3rd of a pint? Those crazy europeans... need a law for everything.

    • Its going to be tricky getting the pricing right and also trying to work out how many units are in 2/3 of a regular pint.

Personally I find it a bit confusing but I'm sure the industry will find some way of making it very profitable in the end

    • As long as they don't abolish the pint, I don't see the harm in offering a 2/3rder. I welcome it, in fact. Sometimes a pint is too much, but half a pint is simply too small. And it seemingly shows consideration for reducing excessive alcohol consumption, to boot. Thumbs up x2.
