Guinean Protestors Shot Dead

Violence erupts in Guinea, the worst since military junta leader Captain Moussa Dadis Camara seized power in a 2008 coup. It follows months of tension with opponents who demand he honor a longstanding pledge to ensure a transition to civilian rule. The death toll from a crackdown by Guinean security forces on opponents of the military junta has risen to 157.

    • I have been to Conakry Guinea many times. Currently, the situation is extremely tense and my thoughts go out to to the people of Guinea. I hope their will remains strong, and their goal to have a fairly elected government achieved. In the end though it is up to the people to decide to resist and reform or to continue living with corruption and unjust violence.
