The Senate Finance Committee withstood two attempts today to add a government-run public health insurance option to its compromise health care bill.

    • I think there will eventually be a public option created. Now, in my opinion the coverage should only be catastrophic, should not force people to switch. But, it will and should happen because private rates are spiraling out of control, there must be a balance.

    • Though the Senate Finance Committee has a large sway on the Senate version of the bill it does not have the final say. The Senate Health committee's proposal includes a strong public option and the three House committees do as well. In the end it will be a question of how strong the public option is and that will be worked out when the House and Senate versions are reconciled.

      Exactly! Dumb racists, manipulated by astroturf from the insurance companies, clinging to their guns and jesus, voting against their own self interest.

      The good news is that they are a vocal minority. The majority of Americans aren't quite that stupid.
