Our media does not report that killer,Steven Kazmierczak, Northern Illinois University shootings, had been taking Psychotropic Drugs. Columbine shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, as well as 15-year-old Kip Kinkel, the Oregon killer who gunned down his parents and classmates, and Cho Seung Hui, the Virginia Tech killer, were all on Psychotropic Drugs.
This is an ever-repeating story in America. Everyone seems befuddled each time like it will never happen again and it must have been a failed school system, a bad parent video games or perhaps an odd song. While these may be contributing factors, we should be open to investigating all possible causes. Our US "News" media never whispers any hint of possibility of side effects of these legal drugs being a possible part of the cause.
Imagine a cocktail of these drugs in American "troubled teens" and prisoners. This is common in our vastly over-medicated American society. The problem is often combined with other seemingly harmless drugs that often have serious confusion and violence producing side effects. Many people take 5 or more medications at the same time. This is considered a good thing in the US.
Add this to a population who are missing critical components of their diets. UK Prisons are cutting violent behaviour by a third by simply correcting that deficiency. These are in placebo controlled double blind studies conducted right now with Oxford College. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-wellbeing/health-news/prison-....
If Obama, as our next United States President, is not whipped to his knees by the Powerful Health "Care" Industry, he could clear prisons and youth detentions drastically in the USA within a year, maximum. I think, tragically, he probably is already affected by their millions in contributions. He said he will not be. Only time will tell if he is a true hero for change. I hope so.

I dont like how the commercials for these products also give you all the symptoms so you can repeat them to your doctor. Your doctor wants to treat you and keep you happy and coming back. There should be no ads to the public about these drugs as we cannot go out and simply buy them. It should be up to doctors to read the scientific studys about these drugs and evaluate your symptoms not the ones listed on the commercials. Then he should prescribe the appropriate medication.

seriously.
have you heard the commercials that have Brooke Shields talking about growing longer eyelashes? My mom takes that stuff for glaucoma, her doctor told her to be incredibly careful with it because it WILL permanently discolor your eyes. In the commercial that warning is given as if it were an occasional side effect.

My question is why are children still being prescribed these drugs if we already know they are bad news..and why isn't the media in the USA doing its job and at least looking into why these stories are coming steadily? We don't hear a peep from Pharmaceutical Industry supported US TV/media. This is a nightmare that I have to keep posting these stories to help save people's lives from our friendly neighborhood newscasters.

Wow. that's a lot of accusation without any article at all. As it happens the prozac suicide behavior is documented and understood. Prozac has a stimulant effect that comes online faster than it's anti depressant one. One of the the things that keeps depressives from killing themselves is that depression makes you lethargic ad you just don't have the energy to do it. This effect is now simply countered by the addition of other drugs in the initial stages when given to young people and there is no more problem.
as for the concept of adding a six part series of videos to another article, that's totally annoying. You want to throw up something like that make another article. Go away please. This is one one time I am truly glad that noscript blocks video from playing unless it is clicked on.

checked out your link. The article is from 2006. How is this news if the article is 4 years old!?
As I said earlier this is a known, understood, and fixed problem. This post is so not news

damn bomb, you've got a knack for being a hater.
what about this article pisses you off so much? other than the fact that it is 3 years old and you think the problem has been "fixed"?

As for being a hater I disagree. I am merely attracted by clearly bad or false artiocles and have a habit of calling them out. This does mean that majority of my comments are negative, but it in no way males me a hater. A hater would be calling people names and demanding people be strung up. IMHO I am at worst a crumudgeon.
As for it being a fixed problem; Yes, I absoluttely do.
The issues with Prozac and teen suicide are not new. They are known and understood and can be compensated for. The problem is that it has a slight stimulant effect as well as an antidepressant one. The antidepressant effect takes often over a week to start but the stimulant one comes on much quicker. One of the things that keeps depressed people alive is they don't have the energy to commit suicide. The problem is easily adjusted for by adjusting the cocktail. The reason the article is years old is that the solution is too.

i will give it to you, curmudgeon is a much more appropriate term (I remember missing that one on the SATs all those years ago).
As for adjusting the cocktail, I can say from personal experience and from the first hand accounts of others that we never had suicidal thoughts until taking SSRIs. I never had a panic attack before taking Zoloft, after having a whole slew of pills prescribed to me at varying levels I finally decided that the only way to actually feel better was to change my lifestyle and as a result, my way of thinking. I can agree with you that the article does not do much to present the facts, but just using meds will never cure anxiety or depression.
The main reason I greenlighted this article is because while on the cocktail I felt completely alienated from being human, I could have easily rationalized killing myself and others. That is to say, I wouldn't need to rationalize it, in the drug-induced mania I was a complete sociopath. Fortunately, I never acted on it.
