Here's how it works, according to Liberty Counsel's website:
"Pick one or more of the liberals from the list . . . or choose your own liberal(s) to adopt. If you are led to choose one or more of the liberals we have selected for consideration, please read their brief biographical statement, including the reasons they stand in need of prayer . . . .
Please pray daily for the liberal(s) of your choice, so each can become a good influence on our Nation's culture. Prayer is powerful! It allows God to change the minds of those for whom we are praying. In fact, we fully expect that many of our adoptees will "graduate" from this prayer program with vivid testimonies of God having changed their lives and worldviews!
We will continue to add new subjects to our Adopt a Liberal program. Please feel free to nominate one or more liberals for prayer by emailing us at liberty@LC.org, giving us the reasons you feel they qualify for the program."
Here are the program's adoptees so far:
Mayor Michael Bloomberg
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
Congressman Barney Frank
Director John Holdren
Mr. Barry Lynn
Secretary Janet Napolitano
President Barack Obama
Senator Harry Reid
Speaker Nancy Pelosi
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
Senator Olympia Snowe
The "Unknown Liberal"
Americans United for Separation of Church and State, whose president, Barry Lynn, is among the adoptees, issued a "thank you" statement to Liberty Counsel yesterday: "Recently, two Religious Right activists, Gordon James Klingenschmitt of Colorado and the Rev. Wiley Drake of California, have announced that they are praying for Lynn's death. Lynn said he much prefers the approach of the Liberty Counsel."

Who gives them the right to pray for anybody? When people tell me they will pray for me, part of me always wants to say "thank you for talking to your most likely imaginary god on my behalf, so that i can do more important things with my time." Even though I know they are just trying to be nice and only mean well.....most of the time anyway.

Well, if they are all busy at home praying, at least they won't be annoying the rest of us.

This list of names reminds me of Bernard Goldberg's Top 100 People Screwing up America that so inspired James Adkisson to mount a fatal terrorist attack on a Unitarian church.
"This was a symbolic killing. Who I wanted to kill was every Democrat in the Senate & House, the 100 people in Bernard Goldberg's book. I'd like to kill everyone in the mainstream media. But I know those people were inaccessible to me. I couldn't get to the generals & high ranking officers of the Marxist movement so I went after the foot soldiers, the chickenshit liberals that vote in these traitorous people. Someone had to get the ball rolling. I volunteered. I hope others do the same. It's the only way we can rid America of this cancerous pestilence."

In a small Texas town, a new tavern started a building to open up their business.
The local Baptist church started a campaign of petitions and prayers to block the bar from opening. Work progressed, however, right up till the week before opening, when a lightning strike hit the bar and it burned to the ground.
The church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, till the bar owner sued the church on the grounds that the church was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, either through direct or indirect actions or means. The church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the building's demise in its reply to the court.
As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork. At the hearing,he commented, "I don't know how I'm going to decide this, but as it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that doesn't."

Maybe their energy would be better spent praying for Catholic preists to stop ass-raping little kids?
I don't think it's the secular Progressives they need to be worrying about.
If I had to choose a babysitter for my kid and I had to choose between:
a) A Catholic priest
b) A fundie who rolled around on the floor and spoke "in tongues" whenever the "Spirit of the Lord" over took him
c) A Republican (either kind: the ones fucking their 20 year old interns while preaching "family values" or the ones having gay sex while warning of the dangers of the "homosexual agenda!")
d) a normal, everyday secular progressive who wants Public Option healthcare included in the healthcare bill
I'd stick with D

I have my own program that sort of mirrors this one...it's called 'Adopt A Crazy Ass Fundamentalist'. Instead of praying I send them a copy of Ehrman's tome 'Misquoting Jesus' and follow that with Hitchen's 'God is not Great'. I'm expecting great results!

It will only work if you take the reading material to them, and stay to read. Or hire it done.
