Can't this just be explained by the fact that most of the people who get the traditional flu shot are in high risk health care positions?

That is a very good reason, but not to have the shot for reasons above is ludicris. More good than bad.

It takes 1 person to start an pandemic. I don't want to take a chance. You do what you want but I will take my chances. And I hope the H1N1 doesn't come to a epidemic. It did happen in history lets not repeat it.

look its a matter of numbers like say whooping cough you are not likely to know any one under 30 that has ever had that but that dose not mean you don’t need a vaccine for it. It just means that so many get the vaccine that it has trouble spreading so very few get it I have only had the flu twice because of the high use of the flu vaccine so few have it and fewer spread it. This claim using lack of illness to imply vaccines are useless is a common tactic used by the anti vaccine people its just a total misunderstanding of the statistics of immunology if you don’t believe it look at the number of deaths in the 1918 flu pandemic and the flu deaths of Native Americans in the late 1800s. This particular flu has had strange behaviors and has affected different people in different countries forming no patterns and yes many officials have panicked to the point of race baiting in some cases. But if you look at the reality of it as groups that appose vaccines raise so do cases of once rare but deadly diseases thought to be a thing of the past that puts us all at risk I am not saying this is the next pandemic or the end of the world I’m just saying the swine flu originated when corporate pig farms instead of cleaning up their act just moved their problems to Mexico allowing this virus to escape out of the US so if irresponsibility created this problem more irresponsibility will not solve it.

S3,
Yes, I am getting both the regular flu vaccine and the H1N1 vaccine -- and I am due for my pneumonia vaccine this year -- every five years -- so I will be getting that one as well. No, there isn't a snowball's chance I am going to go to the trouble of videotaping the experience. Are you kidding me? We're not talking about my chidlrens' first steps here. We're talking about the kinds of vaccinations I have received every year since I turned 40. About as siginificant an event in my life as plugging my parking meter...

I think he/she was talking to me about the video. I told these folks if I get permission from my boss I would do it,anything to shut these vaccine phobic folks that I won't grow a pig snout or a curley tail.

Oh...now I see my mistake -- thank you, maof4. I missed the fact that he addressed us consecutively in one post. Though I still have no idea what videotaping the vaccinations would prove. I suppose if I spontaneously combust as the H1N1 vaccine enters my blood stream, I'll know what the hubbub was about.
I am infinitely more concerned that the vaccine won't prevent me from getting the flu than I am that it will do harm to me. I have had two pneumonia vaccines over the past 10 years...and have been hospitalized four times with pneumonia during that same period.

If it is a big conspiracy then why isn't it given to everyone,hey they could make it really worth alot more money if they would advise everyone to get it,not just children and the elderly. I don't understand people that think it's just about money. Yes when it comes to alot of things with big Pharma it is but not when it comes to an pandemic and maybe an epidemic. I don't want to see that,would you? I think not. We as a human race has seen epidemics, read some history. Ok nobody get any vaccines and see what happens. RUN FOR THE HILLS!

@Cztheday,
If the flu, and H1N1 shots are no big deal, I suppose you'll be getting yours? That would make a great video you could post here at Current.
@maof4brats,
Please do update us on how you fare after getting vaccinated. Including immediate reactions after you receive it.
I'm sorry, but since you mentioned it, please tell us the benefits of the shots? Then please compare that to the risk! Are you aware of the risks?

If I can get permission from my boss that would be a great Idea. I have no problem with the vaccine. There are more risks to my patients than for me to get it. I am in a high exposure risk so I will do my best to get the shot,pun intended.
And the risk to my patients is that I work with alot immuned comprimised very sick people,this virus is killing people not many, if any have been killed by the vaccine.

S3th:
What I'm looking for here maof4brats, is some legitimate, verifiable proof that the H1N1 is effective in preventing one from contracting the swine flu. I don't believe that has been proved at all. Then there is the fact that the H1N1 is being hyped up as being this huge killer flu, which is actually a lie. More are killed by the run of the mill flu every year. And yet, the standard flu shot is NOT mandatory, nor even considered necessary by the majority of people.
I believe you are being duped by our wonderful mass media's propaganda, and the desire of big Pharma to make money off of the hysteria being created. And they don't give a damn what you, your family, or anyone endures as a result of the side-effects of the vaccine they have fast-tracked.
And what I would really appreciate is if you could post exactly what it is that is in the H1N1 vaccine. A photocopy of the list of agents used in it would be fantasitc!
BTW, you say you have no problem with the vaccine. How about your co-workers?

A combination of the stupidity of many, GBW for spending 2 trillion dollars on two unnecessary and unwinnable wars, the democrats for insisting that houses be made available for people that really couldn't afford them, the republicans for insisting that there be no government regulation of financial institutions, and last of all the American people for living on credit way beyond their means.

Yep. Hero worship of doctors and nurses is just beyond ridiculous. There are wonderful examples of both. There are also many, many doctors and nurses who smoke, drink, are obese, abuse drugs, sleep around without protection and all of the other myriad poor decisions the rest of us make -- including, amusingly enough refusing to take the REGULAR flu and pneumonia vaccines. As a result thousands are taken ill and hundreds hospitalized every year (yes, I have a citation if you like). The refusal of some to take this vaccine is indicative of absolutely nothing. Well, I suppose it is indicative of laziness or poor judgment, I suppose. But really, who cares? I absolutely support anyone's decision not to have the vaccination -- should be completely a personal decision unless it looks like a pandemic is developing that would significantly punish our economy or essential public services. We can't let people's stupidity drive us into another Depression.

This is probably worth keeping in mind, but I am skeptical that it will turn out to be a significant health problem. I haven't heard much from the idiots who were warning that the H1N1 vaccines were going to end life as we know it on the planet. As I said then, I will be as close to the front of the line as my particular health status will allow. It will be interesting to see how all those who swore they would not be vaccinated fare. Rather Darwinian if you think about it.... ; )
