Health insurer sued an ENTIRE STATE to increase profits

slowdive
This is obscene -- the biggest health insurance company (WellPoint, aka Blue Cross Blue Shield) is suing the state of Maine for refusing to guarantee it a profit margin in the midst of a painful recession.

If you are in Maine, or have friends who are -- they need to see this!

    • These insurance companies lobby to force car companies to have seat belts, bikers to wear helmets etc. etc. They lobbied and won to force all drivers to buy their "insurance" They think they are the slave-owners and we are their slaves. They are right. Maybe they will next force all pedestrians to walk around with a pillow strapped to their ass and helmets, so in case they fall down. If insurance is such a good deal then why don't the insurance companies have any?

    • Yes....vote with your wallet! I have NEVER paid for any type of health treatment and I have asthma, COPD, bronchitis and probably lung cancer by now, I don't give a fuck. They'll never get a penny from me. No insurance company, no hospital, nothing. Fuck em. My money's staying right where it belongs: IN MY POCKET.

    • This is the same trash that run around talking about taking risks to make money and trickle down economics are the same people that sue to guarantee they don’t lose a dime on helping you get better. They love to blame the government all day but it’s really them using the government of the people by as a tool against us lying and supporting candidates ($) to feed us lies. They have dismantled 60 years of progressive reforms that made this country great it’s almost like id rather see the entire country burn down then live comfortably in a world where people with absolutely no scruples get rich off the poor. It looks like the healthcare providers are really money laundering fronts for the investment firms like the mob taking any choice you have as to whether you wish to be a part of this high risk venture. Seeing as the risk is entirely yours and the company heads are guaranteed a profit you have absolutely no say in what they do with you lively hood in regards to buying 10 or 20 new houses they don’t live in. what’s next suing people that get sick and force them to pay a doctor for treatment damn to late that’s now a common practice to wow I’m disgusted.

    • The public option is little more than a corporate social welfare jobs program for insurance companies who stand to go out of business if we have a single payer system. Are the lives of 45,000 people who die annually worth keeping these fat cats in business?

My suggestion: don't buy health insurance if you can avoid it. Vote with your wallet. That's how capitalism works. These companies remain in business only because we buy their products. They deny coverage anyway. Why bother paying premiums?

    • Why didn't anyone complain when Aetna DOUBLED my premium? My bill went from $400/month to now close to $900/month in ONE YEAR.

I'm sick and tired of buying these people homes, and luxuries that they don't deserve.

Why don't they live in a smaller house and drive a smaller car like the rest of us?

Man am I fucking tired of paying for the "privileged". When the hell am I going to be able to spend my money on something other than keeping myself healthy? This shit is making a lot of us go broke.

I agree & I'm sorry for your situation. I'm a grad student & I couldn't afford the jump in monthly payments so I had to drop the school sponsored plan. I thoroughly enjoy how these rich republican christians whore for wealth when their religion tells them not to. It kills the rest of us & they wonder why so many people are turning to atheism & socialism; they have and do work in practice & theory.

    • BURN 'EM TO THE GROUND!
      (if reform doesnt work)

      *sigh*...
Kim's story touches to home, being that i receive the same treatment for the same problem and had the same results..

nothing works, and surgery is "too risky" (or eperimental)
also they are denying me coverage for the physical therapy i went through saying its unnecessary, when all 6 doctors i have seen said, "it the first step in treatment for the condition"

god damn i hate these people so effing much...

      ok im done. ttyl y'all.

    • Oh my god, this is insane. First of all, why is a a corporation allowed to sue the government for a profit margin? I thought the whole point of the free market was that they're suppose to be able to do whatever they want? Crazy.
