More than 300 times a day, a U.S. child will be on his or her way to the hospital to be treated for a serious burn, researchers said.

During the 17-year study period, there were more than 2 million burn-related injuries in this age group, or about 120,000 burns annually, the study said.

The study, published online ahead of print of the November issue Pediatrics, showed that among children under 6, most injuries occurred in the home -- 60 percent from thermal burns. The hands and fingers were the most frequently injured body parts at 36 percent, followed by the head and face at 21 percent.
