2012 isn't the end of the world, Mayans insist

Or is it?
Definitely not, the Mayan Indian elder insists. "I came back from England last year and, man, they had me fed up with this stuff."
It can only get worse for him. Next month Hollywood's "2012" opens in cinemas, featuring earthquakes, meteor showers and a tsunami dumping an aircraft carrier on the White House.
At Cornell University, Ann Martin, who runs the "Curious? Ask an Astronomer" Web site, says people are scared.
"It's too bad that we're getting e-mails from fourth-graders who are saying that they're too young to die," Martin said. "We had a mother of two young children who was afraid she wouldn't live to see them grow up."
Chile Pixtun, a Guatemalan, says the doomsday theories spring from Western, not Mayan ideas.
A significant time period for the Mayas does end on the date, and enthusiasts have found a series of astronomical alignments they say coincide in 2012, including one that happens roughly only once every 25,800 years.
But most archaeologists, astronomers and Maya say the only thing likely to hit Earth is a meteor shower of New Age philosophy, pop astronomy, Internet doomsday rumors and TV specials such as one on the History Channel which mixes "predictions" from Nostradamus and the Mayas and asks: "Is 2012 the year the cosmic clock finally winds down to zero days, zero hope?"
It may sound all too much like other doomsday scenarios of recent decades - the 1987 Harmonic Convergence, the Jupiter Effect or "Planet X." But this one has some grains of archaeological basis.
One of them is Monument Six.
Found at an obscure ruin in southern Mexico during highway construction in the 1960s, the stone tablet almost didn't survive; the site was largely paved over and parts of the tablet were looted.
It's unique in that the remaining parts contain the equivalent of the date 2012. The inscription describes something that is supposed to occur in 2012 involving Bolon Yokte, a mysterious Mayan god associated with both war and creation.
However - shades of Indiana Jones - erosion and a crack in the stone make the end of the passage almost illegible.
Archaeologist Guillermo Bernal of Mexico's National Autonomous University interprets the last eroded glyphs as maybe saying, "He will descend from the sky."
Spooky, perhaps, but Bernal notes there are other inscriptions at Mayan sites for dates far beyond 2012 - including one that roughly translates into the year 4772.
And anyway, Mayas in the drought-stricken Yucatan peninsula have bigger worries than 2012.
"If I went to some Mayan-speaking communities and asked people what is going to happen in 2012, they wouldn't have any idea," said Jose Huchim, a Yucatan Mayan archaeologist. "That the world is going to end? They wouldn't believe you. We have real concerns these days, like rain."
The Mayan civilization, which reached its height from 300 A.D. to 900 A.D., had a talent for astronomy
Its Long Count calendar begins in 3,114 B.C., marking time in roughly 394-year periods known as Baktuns. Thirteen was a significant, sacred number for the Mayas, and the 13th Baktun ends around Dec. 21, 2012.
"It's a special anniversary of creation," said David Stuart, a specialist in Mayan epigraphy at the University of Texas at Austin. "The Maya never said the world is going to end, they never said anything bad would happen necessarily, they're just recording this future anniversary on Monument Six."
Bernal suggests that apocalypse is "a very Western, Christian" concept projected onto the Maya, perhaps because Western myths are "exhausted."
If it were all mythology, perhaps it could be written off.

Just a side note Y2K was a man made real threat and not a religious hyped phrophecy for end of days. Some groups did jump on it as doomsday scenario since a nuclear accident was a real possiblity. It was only averted by hours and hours of programming revisions and lots of co-operation by unlikely sources that kept the predictions from coming true.

Every whacko and crackpot and even quite a few "sane" people are always seeing the end of the world in this event or that one. I'd swear to God they have a death wish and are dissapointed when the world doesn't explode into trillion pieces.
Second, we are ALL going to die eventually. We will each face our own private end of the world, so why the big hurry?

2012 is the New Y2K!
Many people will make money on selling this idea, then when its over, the conspiracy groups will move on to the next item of importance!
Nothing is going to happen except a cool astronomical alignment. The really neat thing is how the Maya's acquired all of their vast knowledge in the first place back then, and how did they loose it!

The only thing that is going to change in 2012 is we are going to realize that we are getting the same hype we got when the sky was falling on Y2K. Remember that?
Every turn of the Centuries has brought its share of Apocalyptic visions.
We, as a species, tend to create self-fulfilling prophecies that have a cyclical nature. They repeat.
There is an extreme Archaeologist in China, a Dr. Lee who states that humanity has had 83 different times it has risen and fallen to where there were millions, even billions of people and then populations reduced considerably due to natural disasters of various sorts including meteors, ice ages, climate change, and disease over the past 2 million years or more.
Many myths have survived the ages, myths that used to contain astronomical knowledge that was passed down. Knowledge like the precession of the equinoxes.
Unfortunately about 2012 is that for most people its going to be a big fat disappointment.
On another note though, IMHO if humanity gets that disappointment that "a force bigger than ourselves is going to make things REALLY change here on planet earth" my hope is that that disappointment will lead to the revolution we so desperately need. People will have reached the point where they are dumb ass tired of being lied to and manipulated for corporate profits and that they will unite around vanquishing the common enemy, the slave wage system and the non ownership society. No more class distinctions, no more stratification.

Speaking of the precession of the equnoxes, a psychic of the 20th century, Edgar Cayce, predicted that the new age currently described by the Earth's wobbling north pole is pointing at the Aquarian constellation. And that the Earth entered the 0 degree sometime between
October 1998 and April 1999. Ages are roughly 2,000

I predict ...
Let it be known, In the year 5,000,002,012 the Sun will turn into a red giant and boil off the oceans before engulfing us and the other inner planets.
All that will be left of us is the Voyager spacecraft.
Yet we will be reborn in one of the infinite parallel universes, just given random chance. Perhaps we'll find Voyager on the other side and puzzle about where it came from.

There's no doubt that date could not signal the end of the world. The Earth will survive until its star Sol becomes a red dwarf then increases in size to envelop the inner planets until it finally novas. If you mean the world of humans the odds of being obliterated by some other cosmic event are much more likely. People have speculated that date might precipitate world wide earthquakes because the earth's poles might abruptly shift. The poles location depend on the magnetosphere. There's been a 10 % drop in this natural shield against deadly cosmic radiation which has occurred. (If it ever even temporarily drops altogether there could be a flood of lethal cosmic radiation that could penetrate earth's atmosphere and into the bodies of humans and other living organisms.) And there's a huge magnetic anomaly existing under the Atlantic ocean off
the coast of Brazil which has been noted. Earth's magnetic poles' radical shifting has happened before, but not during the time of modern recorded history. Alaska was once at the equator. The speculation is that since the radical abrupt shifting is long overdue, some gravitational anomaly might occur with a cosmic conjunction that might trigger it. And if it does, no one knows what effect that might have on the tectonic plates. Earthquakes might occur along fault lines worldwide and simultaneously, overwhelming insurance companies and perhaps even governments. It's as yet.uncharted territory. No doubt you've seen or at least heard of the summer hit movie The Core which came out several years ago. Because the core of the earth is moving and has nickle iron in it, it generates a magnetic field which keeps the oxygen atmosphere of the Earth from bleeding away into space. Mars was once a living planet like Earth which had liquid water, but it died when its magnetosphere failed. In the Nat Geo documentary on the magnetosphere a scientist theorized that there's a nuclear reaction in the Earth's core on a harmonic with the Sun's nuclear furnace. And that the sunspot activity may have some effect on the core and its magnetosphere also. All these factors look like alphabet soup to me. Anyone can draw some inference but nothing is conclusive. It would do no good to worry about it anyway. "The skane of your life was woven long before you were born. Worry about it if you wish, but you will not live even one moment longer than you're supposed to." The future's not promised to anyone or anything, realisticly. We simply survive, living day by day, for as long as we or something else maintains our foundation for life. By now we know that if some cosmic meteor the size of a mountain happened to strike the earth, there's little if not jack shit we could ever do to avert a nuclear winter. The mayans observed & recorded time on the basis of cosmic cycles because they thought long term, and they knew the planets and stars moved in regular, measurable cycles like the gears of a clock that could be predicted. Actual Facts on The Supreme Number 9 (Born)
Current mood: aroused
Category: Life
In Mathematics, The Number 9 is considered Born because it simbolizes the completion of a thing. All things are brought into existence or Born into reality according to The Supreme 9 in Our Universe. These are just a few of the important things we can relate to when dealing with The Supreme Number 9 in Our Universe.
There are 9 planets in Our "outer" solar system:1. Mercury
2. Venus
3. Earth
4. Mars
5. Jupiter
6. Saturn
7. Uranus
8. Neptune
9. Plutoon or PlutoThere are 9 systems in the human body:
1. Skeletal - Bones
2. Muscular - Muscles
3. Nervous - Nerves
4. Circulatory - Blood Supply
5. Endocrine - Glandular Organs
6. Excretory - Organs of Elimination
7. Respiratory - Lungs
8. Digestive - Stomach & Intestines
9. Reproductive - ReproducingThere are 9 main Endocrine Glands in the male/female system:
1. Pituitary - located at the base of the brain.
2. Hypothalmus - located in the forebrain/connected to the Pituitary.
3. Pineal - located in the middle of the brain.
4. Thyroid - located in the throat.
5. Thymus - located in the lower chest/upper neck.
6. Pancreas - located at the rear of abdomen.
7. Ovaries - located in the abdomen of women.
8. Testicles - located at the scrotum of men.
9 Adrenals - located at the upper end of each kidney around the spine-base.Man has 9 original senses:
1. see - observing with the two physical eyes.
2. Touch - to feel with the two physical hands.
3. Taste - using the sensors on the tongue to know and understand taste.
4. Smell - breathing in thru the nostrils to know and understand smell.
5. Hear - using the two physical ears to listen and understand sound waves.
6. Telepathy - channelling the mind to give and recieve information in the form of thought waves.
7. Intuition - the act of knowing and seeing something before it transpires.
8. Clairivoyance - the ability to speak with those who have departed from the physical realm of existence.
9. Telekinesis - the act of moving physical objects by focus of mind. The Mayans mastered all of these Systems and this gave them the ability to see into Future.

It might mean the end of this world. But to is taken out of context.
The end of this world really only means One World going out and a New World coming in. We're leaving the Age of Pisces and entering the Age of Aquarius. No one can deny that. In the process of the Universe assisting the Earth in helping it cleans itself from all toxic parasites, many of us will die.
When a woman goes into labor at 9 months, she endures great pain in the process of giving birth to her new child. After(birth) the cycle of life starts over(1-0-) We're all made up from the same molecules, matter and rhythm that the Earth is. Our make up consist of 75% water just like the Earth does. That Messiah that the World is waiting on is embedded in the DNA of all of us. That's the beauty of the Spiritual path.WE'RE ALL EQUAL.It's not just One Christ. It is the Body of Christ, and this doesn't have a damn thing to do with Religion. We are all Baby Gods. The Sun IS THE Son of God. We have 9 major organs that are given Spiritual energy from our Solar plexus, just like the 9 planets that revolve around the Sun. This is basic knowledge for anybody that wants to understand the meaning of our Chakra systems.
Politely said,.." Mother Nature is entering into a very violent labor of cleansing preparing this house for the Birth to a New Child, a New World, and a New Kingdom on Earth as it is in Heaven . Be at Peace with that because there is no escaping Justice.. The Mayans just couldn't see beyond 2012 just like Moses couldn't see the Promise Land.

This is the first that I've read they Mayans said the world was ending in 2012. The information that I read a few years ago was more that their calendar reset /start over on that day and so some theorized that meant doomsday to mankind. The resets indicated the end of one world phase and beginning of the next. The last reset has been set at August 3114 BC and runs to the first day of winter 12-21-12 since each long count of their calendar is 5,125 years long. So if 3114 was their beginning of current state mankind then many think 2012 would be the end of current state of mankind indicating some type of transformation of man not necessarily annhilation.
I'm not sure if any specific religions were meant above when posters referenced them since there are many vary different religions out there, but from I know of most Christian sects (there is widespread differences among them), but the majority believe they have God's promise by the way of the rainbow that he would never destroy the earth again. Their Bible book of Revelations describes the destruction of a wicked system of things (false religions, corrpupt governments and dishonest merchants) and seems to reference only a minority of mankind being able to survive this time of judging since they would be supportive of the respective human governments and not recognize God as rightful ruler. Therefore it can't be said Christians believe this to be the "end of mankind" but rather a change in phase of mankind which leads many to think the two beliefs co-incide on 12-21-12 with many Christians to look to this time period as one to be on the watch but they know from other Bible books that no one was given the day or hour but rather prophecies that point to that time period..

Interesting that the interpretation of this Mayan elder isn't at all in line with what the mass media feeds us regarding 2012. People definitely have over active imaginations and an inability to separate entertainment from reality. Nevertheless, I suppose many are just looking to cash in on the "2012 prophecies" before they pass.

I'm fed up with this stuff too, comon sense tells you, after the constant bombardment, you are still able to face whatever reality you choose, to be able to enlighten your situation. Nobody is telling you to beleive it, We're just telling you to wake up and see it for what it is, which is change, and what kind do you want. Time and time again , here, you will read , what's ahead ,unless this happen, .this is where it is. End cycle, nothing left, dead planet. Ruination, extinction, end of story. For everyone of those attitudes there's 2 more to light the other side. Most of them are right here in front of you. And more importantly, the kind of attitude we need is one of ,enough of this kind of talk. climate change is what it is, and yes change how we damage and further it. The world isn't going to end, but it will go thru some changes, so will we WE know what needs to be done and yes ,it will be done, because that's what THIS whole thing is about, conscious awareness, conscious choice, creation thru communication, so leave the man alone, dream your own dream, and for God sake be smart about it.

Though i do not believe the world and universe will end in existence 12-21-2012, i would still like for the religious followers that are so fixated on their 'End of Days' concept to actually believe 12-21-2012 to be the Apocalypse. They should look forward to their day Judgment if they have been true followers. So when 12-21-2012 comes and nothing happens, (as in no savior comes to take his followers to a better place) and everyone is wrong about it being the end of days, then we all make the decision as a whole to let go of the idea that 'the end is near' and that we dont continue carrying waiting for it. This would develop the understanding that we will be living together for quite sometime regardless of differences we create and place on each other. We only have this planet to live on, and humans may all die at one point, but that being done on 12-21-2012 will most likely be done through our own means rather then some super-natural occurrence. So even if humans all disappear, this planet, and all the others that make up this galaxy, and the rest of the universe will carry on in existence.
12-21-2012 will be the Apocalypse, but that word in Greek means end of times/age; also day of enlightment. We are at the end of the Pisces Age, but there is still the Aquarius coming. Pisces is represented by two fish, and its attributes are displayed in various ways through this age we have gone through. One way is the way we face 'dualities'; such as religion vs science, love vs hate, masculine vs feminine, spiritual vs physical (Cartesian Dualism--1641). Thesis vs Antithesis. The age begins with one fish- Christ (which many have seen the fish sign that is meant to represent Jesus Christ), and as we all know, the age ends with the Anti-Christ. As we go into the age of Aquarius, the pitcher of water is dumped to allow the fish to swim together. It can be evident through the use of the internet and the rapid rate of communication that we are able to discuss our perspectives and differences, leading to compromises and understandings. Western Science can only get so far before trying to understand placebos and holistic healing of ancient eastern spiritual teachings. A balance is being found as we continue on. This is not to say that on 12-21-2012 peace will come about, and all issues and differences will be laid to rest. It is just the marking point of the true start into an age of enlightenment.
I have gather these ideas from studying works from Carl G. Jung (more so on his approach of 'synchronicity'), mythology and its connection to the zodiacs and astrology. I have pieced it together and through reasoning came to these conclusions. I am very optimistic of the the time after 12-21-2012, but wont be getting my hopes up for much to occur on the day.

The problem is that for the self-righteous, that moment of realization will NEVER happen.
A few months back I was watching a documentary on one of the smaller cult groups and the crew were there filming the cult as they prepared for what they believed would be their rapture. And as the "chosen day" approached suddenly the tone changed. It really wasn't going to be "The Rapture" as they were talking about. Their leader was simply going to undergo a spiritual transformation.
The crew were barred from being on the compound in the time just prior to the "chosen day" and everyone not involved with the cult or previously involved with it feared they would pull a Heaven's Gate strategy and do mass suicide. The day, the hour, the minute, and the second came and went and an hour later they all came back down and proclaimed that "the world had been transformed".
The people who believe that the world is coming to an end on a specific date will never change their minds even when that date comes and goes. They'll just say it's going to happen SOON. It's right around the corner! It's coming! Get ready!

The Mayans were superbly Spiritual, while Jung, as great as some people saw him, was a blatant racist. He openly made statements about cultures and other Races of people that were not White, being inferior to White people.
That's the End of the World that the Mayans were talking about, not the End of Time or the End of everything. I can't wait for this World to End. I'm looking forward to a New Heaven and a New Earth.

"This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius"
http://www.astrology.com/aboutastrology/transits/ageofaquarius/
Seriously though, If the world was going to end there is nothing any of us can do about it. Modern humans have been on this earth just a fraction of it's existence. Things have happened to the earth (poles shifting, ice ages, meteor strikes etc.) They'll all happen again at some point maybe mankind will be here to see it maybe not. Either way these may happen in 2012, tomorrow or a 1000 years from now. People waste a lot of time predicting gloom and doom. Sometimes I think people won't the world to end. Well I'll pass on that, as difficult as life gets sometimes I actually enjoy it.

2012 hysteria is a complete waste of time, just like every previous so-called end of the world. The world will not end, and stupid humans will have to deal with the mess they have made out of everything.

Ya its definitely not the end of the world. But what is interesting is the celestial alignment that's going to happen on that date.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Earth, our moon, the Sun and center of the galaxy will be aligned. That's what starts the new age for the Mayans because it only happens once every 25,800 years since the solar system kind of "wobbles" back and forth while rotating around the center of the galaxy.
Some have said the poles could shift because of the wobble, as they have done in the past. But I don't know if that would really happen or even matter. Certainly won't end our civilization though.

A friend of mine the other day gave the greatest answer to the 2012 date. "Maybe the guys who were carving or chiseling the Mayan calendar just got tired and said hey boss we are all the way up to 2012 can we quit now?"

I was thinking the EXACT same thing. I mean, come on, to make a calendar from that time to 2012 had to have been tiring. That calendar was pretty intricately designed.
I can't believe so many people are buying into that 2012 stuff with polar reversal and whatnot or whatever. Y2K was how long ago? Mass hysteria...gotta love it.

I explain it as such: "Big Kahuna" with many leaf on head, was writing his calendar, when all of a sudden......ewwwww! heart attack kills the only man who knew how to write on calendar. or a lighting strike.
that's my story & feel free to use as long as "Pico 26" is mentioned
