Ted Turner: "I Want To Run CNN Again"

Ted Turner, who founded CNN in 1980, is very displeased with the direction of the channel, and wants to buy it back. He says that he wants "less fluffy talk and more news". He criticized the channel's "pervert of the day" type stories and says if he were running it again, the channel would focus more on environmental and international news. In an somewhat unrelated comment, Turner also says that he wants to run "the Cartoon Network" again. Read more at link.

    • I've been abroad for two years now and haven't watched 'domestic' CNN in a bit. However, its international counterpart is on my TV virtually everyday. Talk Asia, Inside Africa, World Report, Scene-by-Scene, and World Sport run in a constant cycle on my television.

      The closest CNN International gets to fluff would be Anderson Cooper 360. And although I had a WTF moment when AC referenced Jon and Kate plus 8, the show is still somewhat stand-up.

      Outside of that, all the garbage news that would appease some in their American demographic seems to be discarded outside of U.S. borders. How about they just take a lesson from their international, wiser self?

    • North America needs a news network that doesn't rouse so much suspicion that it discredits itself. Jon and Kate Plus 8 is not news and should be reserved for the fodder of such non-news entertainment channels as FOX. Could old Ted recreate CNN to be a credible source for truth in a world spun with corporate propaganda and public manipulation; doubtful but what a legacy that would be.
