I usually recommend:
Read the label and know the company behind it.
This list of big companies that jumped into the organic wagon, does not necessarily mean their products are bad.
It is great to be informed, when you purchase a product you are supporting these companies and sometimes ethics are challenged.
You can make a difference to the environment by being conscious of your choices.
Support local Organic farms whenever you can.

To estee_arie:
Not all corporations use slave labor for production and by trying to change the ones that do and are environmentally irresponsible we will save our own country as it is the same issue, not a separate one.
It's this kind of extreme capitalism that feeds off people' s health and dignity that must change.
You will not take food out of these "poor people's mouths" instead guilds and the public will pressure for better work conditions (pay, benefits etc) and for a product that is healthy, that does not come from slave labor and environmental destruction.
If we all keep silent, nothing will ever change, this is true for anything.
Everything starts by spreading information, some people are uneducated, uninformed, others know but can't see who and/or what to appeal to solve this and remain a minority, resigning to this reality.
We must pressure for a change at a political, social level.
I always keep this in mind:
“Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible."
By St. Francis of AssisiAnd yes you are correct, "it is real easy to write about it - not easy to solve", not at all.

all corporations use slave labor for production - good luck saving the world. we cant even save our own country. then when we do take down a slave labor job warehouse - we take food out of those poor peoples mouths - what little money they made is now 0. so what is the answer. real easy to write about it - not easy to solve.

This is a great list. I wonder what percentage of these companies were just bought out and which are the brain child to help re-brand the company is a green washing way. Any idea?

I wondered who was responsible for turning Odwalla bars in candy crap--now we know--Coca-Cola, the new owner.

This is very useful for those that believe they are supporting the small time farmer/organization by buying organic, most times they are not.

It interests me enormously since food is a requirement for every living animal/human. Getting the dirt on companies how aren't quite playing by the rules has to be of interest to us all.

For example M&M/Mars is the largest chocolate and candy company in the world, the world's top-selling candy.
They use child slave labor for the harvest of cocoa beans. which come from the poor West African coast. Cocoa farmers and children endure intense abuse and suffering.
It's literally disgusting.
We can only stop this if we boycott their products and start buying fair trade ones instead. - 2 years ago
