Fox News Reaches Across Party Lines
Monday, October 19, 2009 9:59 AM
By: Dick Morris & Eileen McGann Article Font Size
Is Fox News “an arm of the Republican Party” as White House Communications Director Anita Dunn says?
Democratic and independent voters beg to differ. A national survey conducted for the League of American Voters by the Global Marketing Research Center during last week shows that 46 percent of those who watch Fox News “just about every day” are Democrats or independents as are 50 percent of those who watch it “several times each week” or more.
Overall, the survey showed that 21 percent of all American voters watched Fox News every day and 18 percent watched it several times each week. So, combined, 39 percent watched the station several times each week or more.
• Among Democrats, 17 percent watched it several times each week or more
• Among Independents, 46 percent watched the station several times each week or more
• And among Republicans, 55 percent watched it several times each week or more
The survey indicated that 11 percent of all American voters watched CNN “just about every day” and 20 percent watched several times each week or more.
Combined, 31 percent watched CNN several times each week or more.
For MSNBC, the totals were 10 percent watched just about every day and 8 percent watched several times each week. Combined, 18 percent watched MSNBC several times each week or more.
These data, seen against the backdrop of the recent storm of White House criticism, casts the administration attacks on Fox News in a different perspective. Could it be that the Obama Administration is concerned about Fox News not because it is “an arm of the Republican Party” but because it is so widely seen among Democrats and Independents?
That the two top spokespeople for the administration this Sunday (Emanuel and Axelrod) both chose to attack Fox News shows how obsessed this thin-skinned president is with his coverage. It is truly amateur hour at the White House from the top down.
The phone survey was taken from a statistically valid national sample of 800 registered voters. Some 36 percent of the respondents said they voted for more Democrats than Republicans while 32 percent said they voted for more Republicans. 24 percent said they voted equally for each party.

Let's focus on what was said.
Axelrod told an American news outlet to quit acknowleding another American news outlet.
The reason?
They are critical of their administration.
Wow. We can all make up our minds whether or not we watch and acknowledge American television. Do we need these threats coming from the White House? What the hell is Obama thinking, allowing his admin to make such absurd comments.

But that is the trouble that the people who watch Fox don't admit it and they make the even worse mistake of defending it by using the ratings if that somehow excuses the failings to report accurately.
The other networks fail to positively use the principles of journalism as a higher priority but at least they don't outright lie and do as much negative damage.
The difference in degree between Fox and the other networks failing to uphold the principles of journalism is more obvious, but people don't seem to notice anyway and that is the worst part of the whole mess since they are still getting distorted information and they don't even care since they are focusing on being entertained instead.

None of the television news organizations come even remotely close to resembling news. They're awful.
But Fox is particularly absurd, watching their stuff is like watching a circus.
I seriously challenge anyone in this thread to find a "fair and balanced" clip of theirs. They're all right-wing all the time. I guess to a neocon, that's fair and balanced.

Fox news was Bush/ Chaneys's lap dog. He granted the exclusive interviews all the time for them to softbal him questions.. remember the post Chaney face shooting interview??? Of Course not, because Fox is now a victim..The facts are Fox news panders to a segment of our society that needs sensationalism and theatrics. The "actors" they hire are meant to be polarizing. They fear monger and race bait because they know some Americans can't help but stare at the car wreck while they drive past. They see pigs and provide them slop. Try formulating a "fair and balanced" opinion. Read a book, volunteer your time and most importantly don't think because it's on Fox it's the gospel.. or don't and enjoy being delusional.

Appearing on ABC's "This Week," senior Obama adviser David Axelrod said Fox News shouldn't be treated as a news organization. "And the bigger thing is that other news organizations, like yours, ought not to treat them that way, and we're not going to treat them that way," he said.

It is more a matter of degree, I guess they have to point out that Fox is going farther over the line than the other networks in disqualifying their shows as news, but most of the others aren't either.
Even though Fox is giving up much pretense of journalism with their policies as the Daily Show pointed out CNN isn't much better.
They seem to have time and resources to fact check SNL sketches but they let Senators, lobbyists and pundits get away with lots of unverified statements using the excuse of "we're out of time so we'll just have to leave it there"
With most of the media's focus on ratings and profits instead of the principles of journalism, it is not much different than what they accuse Fox of, just less obvious.

hunzedog:
Chill out hunze, give me time to reply before you cast me off as a member of the conspiracy.
ACORN isn't crooked, Democrats politically sacrificed them to deal with the fallout of the right-wing noise machine.
First off, their voter-fraud wasn't voter fraud. Their employees get paid to bring in voter registration forms, so they falsified a bunch to keep their jobs. ACORN is obligated by law to mail them regardless of what they say. Obviously, it's not of any use to anyone since no one named Mickey Mouse can actually vote.
And the prostitution thing was also a joke, but anything that says "child prostitution" is literally a political atom bomb. So they had to disenfranchise ACORN. What happened is some asshole pretending to be a pimp went to FIVE different ACORN sites and tried to get advice for his organization and got one of them to talk to him. Then edited it out to make it look like he could just walk in and get that kind of help.
Is there insider trading going on? Between who? And last time I checked, the right doesn't even care about financial fraud. They don't regulate it and they barely prosecute it because those guys are their buddies. Case in point, the ENRON scandal.
Why didn't he ask Americans about Cash for Clunkers? Why would he? He was doing something he was elected to do. What president in history, ever, has -asked- his people what they wanted while he was in office?
Plus, that's a double-edged sword, because then he would just be called a coward for not being a "leader."
He doesn't spend millions of dollars every year talking about healthcare, insurance companies do that!
Plus, we're not even one year into this Presidency. We have not been talking about this for very long.
I agree with you about pharmaceuticals and tobacco, but you can't just ban cigarettes outright. It doesn't work, we tried it with alcohol in the 20's and 30's. It created huge problems and actually made more people drink. Plus, what about the freedom to choose?
Nobody spent ten trillion dollars on the stimulus, it was 600 billion and most of it was in tax cuts. And remember how HUGE the opposition was to that?
The economy is shit right now, nothing can really fix it. That's just the reality. 2.2 trillion dollars or more was just destroyed by this Wall Street crime job, no one has the collateral to deal with that. So tons of businesses just got wiped out.
It's a good thing to have a healthy skepticism for the actions of government, but make sure that distrust is self-maintained, not guided. If someone is telling you who a crook is, check it out for yourself before you write it all off.
And the LAST thing you should EVER trust is someone on tv crying into a camera.

As opposed to......what? A strategic move? A fiscal move?
How is anything you talk about on a news show as a presidential appointee anything other than political?
And let me get this perplexing post from constitution straight.
Most Americans are conservative and want fair and balanced news, which is why they watch Fox even though it's conservative? You do realize that openly endorsing a political philosophy (if you'd venture to call conservatism that) is the farthest thing from fair and balanced you could be?
Lowest approval rating ever? Errrr, no. That'd be the last president. Obama is still in the high 50's/low 60's by any measurement, even the conservative ones.
Also, Tea-Party people aren't independents, so no, they haven't left him.
And can you tell me, concretely, what freedoms are actually being taken away?
Last time I checked, y'all we're in support of torture, wiretapping, surveillance, and religious indoctrination, so it's pretty fucking disingenuous to have an alias of which you either haven't read or don't care for.
