Mormon leader's homophobia meets resistance

Image

A Mormon leader's open homophobia is meeting resistance from all quarters, including four gay advocacy groups. The groups, including Mormons and former church members, released a joint statement Friday taking exception to points made earlier this week by Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

    • Homosexuality is not morally wrong, its not unnatural, it is nothing like beastiality. Such comments are the most ignorant and destructive types of comments because they demonstrate deep seated hatred for something that you don't understand. Or haven't even tried to understand. You are parroting what you learn in your Sunday School religious dogma.

Society gets along just fine with homosexuals in every facet of life. Not every human being on this planet is going to procreate, get used to it. There are many who are incapable and there are many who won't because this world is so fucked up because of religious fanatics who spread hateful ideas like "homos are unnatural, immoral and like beastiality."

Homosexuals are responsible for some of the most beautiful things this world has; achievements in music, visual arts, science, literature, and sports.

    • Mormons should consider gays their friends. Because if they are ever going to get polygamy legalized, they are going to need the gays to make that happen.

Mormons should support gay marriage so that we get a comprehensive marriage reform that simultaneously legalizes polygamy.

That is silly. Men have had multiple wives at different times and in different parts of the world. When I studied anthropology I learned about cultures where a woman had many husbands. There has not been one set definition of what constitutes a family that has been consistant throughout the millenia every where.

All kinship family ties should be legalized and recognized as equal. There should be no discrimination against polygamy or polyandry, or tribal, or corporate familes, marriages, unions. Where I draw the line is animals and inanimate objects. It is time that we empower individuals and familes to have a greater freedom to be the family units they want to be.

Of course I don't agree with forcing anyone into a marriage, especially minors. So in my way of looking at it, polygamy, polyandry, etc, etc, would be between consenting adults and everyone of them would have responsibility for the children born from those unions.

      What will that prove?

Think of all the results came out of not doing drugs, thats right, people still do it away...marijuana for example

The same can be said about gays, is their human right, and so far they have began on the winning road..

Yep, my gay aunts just ruined my life. [heavy sarcasm]

I guess you also agree that divorce should be outlawed because children shouldn't have one parent. And that sucks for all the kids in foster homes who would prefer any kind of parent over nothing.

And we all know that only homosexual parents create homosexual offspring...

Such ignorance, its so sad. People can't learn not to be gay. That has got to be the most ignorant thing I have heard all week, "PSA's to teach people not to be gay."

I am bisexual but mostly gay, and I spent twenty years of my life trying to be Heterosexual exclusively. I made my own life a living hell trying to conform to some imaginary norm. Once I gave up hope of being a full fledged hetero, I found the freedom to be completely real and for the first time I started to feel joy in my life. And it has only gotten better as the years keep rolling along.

You can't speak intelligently about something you haven't experienced first hand. If you do, you are just a parrot.

well i meant to say domestic abuse as well but im sure you like filling in blanks for people

@topscruffy it is not like racism because homosexuality is unnatural and cannot be sustainable. a society which encourages GAY promoting an unhealthy lifestyle. and people dont just become gay. it comes from lustfull thinking just like beastiality its unnatural and shouldnt be encouraged

@jubal it all came from your lustful thoughts towards a man. you shouldnt be thinking like that in the firstplace life isnt about sex until marriage when you marry a women

btw topscruffy im from california sorry if that ruined your whole generalization of a region

That is what you are not getting. You can't seperate a gay from the lifestyle. You are lying to yourself and being disengenuous with us saying "I don't hate gays, I just hate the lifestyle".

Obviously based on the "lust for men" comment you don't have the slightest idea about what the gay "lifestyle" is all about. That is why I say that you are being ignorant.

In your mind being gay is all about sexual lust. That is a very small part of what being gay is about. Its not the defining thing as you are trying to make of it.

Actually, now that I look at his profile picture a bit more, iBrake4rappers looks a bit "sweet" to me (if you know what I mean).

iBrake, are you sure you're not just arguing with your own inner desires to think of other boys when you masturbate?? (I went thru the same thing at age 13. See you in West Hollywood in 5 years....)

ibrake: homosexuality is not unnatural, there are gay animals as well. its sustainable because there are millions of children without parents. there is nothing unhealthy about the lifestyle. comparing it to bestiality is absurd and extreme, and oppressing a single group of citizens into 2nd class citizenship is exactly like racism.

oh and you're from piece of shit caldwell

you're just really young and you'll understand when you finally have a gay to chill with.

i think we should have PSAs to teach people how to think past their little christian, indoctrinated brains to this new thing-- rational thought.

who are you to take a stance against love? stop denying that you live in an environment that would never allow you to live a gay lifestyle and admit that you in fact epitomize the quip "we hate most that which we are".
