Dominique Lincoln was running up a hill during a cross-country race when the ground beneath her seemed to vanish. Her vision blurred and she slumped over, desperately trying to inhale. She watched other runners race by. Then she blacked out.

When she came to moments later, a runner she'd never met was asking her questions and covering her with clothes as she continued to slip in and out of consciousness.

Dominique didn't know it then, but that runner, Helena Page, was disqualified because she stayed with her until help arrived.

For her acts, Helena will be honored by the School Reform Commission at 2 p.m. today at district headquarters, 440 N. Broad St.

"I'm happy that somebody stopped running for me," Dominique, 17, a Fels High senior said yesterday. "I don't know what would have happened if she wasn't there."
