A huge blaze erupted after the explosion on Wednesday, which came just hours after Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, arrived in Islamabad, the Pakistani capital, for talks with government officials.
"The death toll is more than 80. Most of them are women and children," Sahib Gul, a doctor at the city's main hospital said.
"We are facing a shortage of blood. I appeal on citizens to come and donate blood," another doctor was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.
The blast caused serious damage in the area, and rescue workers said people were trapped under collapsed shops and buildings."
UPDATE: The London Times is now reporting that at least 95 people were killed in the attack while 200 were seriously injured.

They are all savages anyway the brits couldn't do it,the russians couldn't do it,and neither can we! it's time to get out!

So is it still our area to be there? Shouldn't we just get out and let them kill each other? Not our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, and friends?

Speaking of desensitize....
95 people die in a distant land that America is dealing with and this entire thing turns into a political blame game.1 girl is ganged raped in California and hearts bleed.
The question was raised how could boys do that (and maybe there were girls there as well) to a 15 year old and justify it? They should be punished this way, that way...penis cut off this and that...and hell and pain and whatever.
She did not die. She is alive.
The question should be here: how can 95 people die but not even match the sadness of 1 girl being ganged raped?
95 people died and what will be said here is who is to blame and why and NOTHING about the punishment that should befall those that caused the death of mothers, sisters, brothers and the like.
They don't even get to have funerals that they'd want to give their loved ones...they may not even find what is left of them and if they do that is the last picture in their mind of the person they love. A mangled mess of human flesh because a group of idiots want to make a political statement. And do they get blamed? No...no....someone in America gets the blame because it's their fault. Never blame the people that do it...always catch the bigger fish because then it'll never happen again.
...well until the next car bomb.

Destabilizing Pakistan is a way for the Taliban to shake the confidence of the citizenry in their government's ability to protect them. It's plain old thuggery - not some secret CIA plot. Just think about organized crime controlled neighborhoods or urban gang controlled neighborhoods. They use the threat of violence not to gain sympathy, but to enforce loyalty.

We have been indoctrinated into diistrusting too many of the real and reliable sources. The truth is that US has lost face so many times that they are going to stay for a big let down only to try and prove that they are better bigger than Russia. But it is going to cost too many lives and the ignorant Americans who have no idea what and where Afghanistan is are calling for a surge. Fine I dont believe that families who have loved ones fighting these wars are voting for a surge, but the Bush Obama brainwashed idiots are calling for a surge. I suggest that the Administration really do it up big. Take and draft every American regardless of age, if he supports then he should be put through three months of Basic training and shipped immediately to the Afghanistan front to face the Taliban and any other yankee haters from over there. They should be given a history lesson of the Kyber Pass and the Kyber Rifles and the first British invasion in 1839 and the end of the British Empire in 1947. The british are most anxious to return to The middle east and rebuild their Empire but the odds of success are still the same. NIL. No one has ever had a permanent hold on the Arab and Eurasian Nations, although hundreds of thousands have died over the past 2000 years, From Alexander the Great to the Greeks, the Romans and finally the Bristish and the Americans.War Mongers are always ready for war and death as long as they can set on their fat asses and order the young teenagers do the fighting and dieing and all they have to do is add up the profits they make from both warring sides. Its a rotten world and its not getting any better.

I'm numb. I've been hearing about car bombs and the Taliban all my life. I just don't feel anything when I hear about attacks like this. It's horrifying.

Damn, this is like the second major bombing they've done in afghanistan. The recent bombings have really taken out many casualties, its sad that children cant even go outside out of fear that they'll never come back. Its like there is no safe zone where a kid can be a kid and a family can just live in peace. Wish i knew the reasoning behind talibans mercyless attacks. Fucking cowards.

Al Jazeera over fox look at there reporting say since 911
The original Al Jazeera channel's willingness to broadcast dissenting views, including on call-in shows, created controversies in the Arab states of the Persian Gulf. The station gained worldwide attention following the September 11, 2001 attacks, when it was the only channel to cover the war on Afghanistan live from its office there and broadcast video statements by Osama bin Laden and other al-Qaeda leaders.

This is the second major car bomb in the middle east these past weeks. Almost 250 people have been killed overall. Why isn't this a big story?
There are still massive threats from terrorist attack in both Iraq and Pakistan, where these two occurred. This year has been one of the worst in violence - where will so much sustained instability and death lead the many generations that have been forced to weather these times? How will the future of a nuclear power be with a consistent barrage of tremendous attack such as these on its morale, its people, and the authority of its government?

20 views, no comments. hmmm. Is that because this is from aljazeera? No one wants to comment on an item from a news source we've been indoctrinated to distrust?
Well, I want to know how they know the Taliban was responsible for this and not the CIA...that's my comment. Yesterday explosions in Iraq, today in Pakistan, and I'm sorry, but I have to wonder why. It doesn't make sense that the Taliban would do this if they want us out of their neck of the woods. Something like a market bomb is only going to increase support for a US presence over there, so who are the real beneficiaries of these bombings?
as always, follow the money. There are those who are making a lot of money on these wars, and I don't think they like it much when our president suggests pulling back. I am sorry again, but I just don't trust the daily dose of bullshit we are being fed in order to keep these soul-less warmongers in money and power. They have already proven by their words and actions that they don't care about human life.

I guess they are basing their assumption on the fact that the Taliban has been threatening Pakistan recently. There has not been an official statement from the Taliban yet claiming responsibility.
