Ford has announced profits of almost $1bn (£611m) between July and September thanks to increased market share and a successful cost-cutting programme.

Pre-tax profit for the quarter came in at $997m, compared with a loss of $161m a year earlier. Revenue was $30.9bn, down $800m on a year ago.

The US carmaker said it was making "tremendous progress despite the slump in the global economy".

It also said it expected to be "solidly profitable" during 2011.

    • Rock on ford, we try to drive all ford products. The only company that didn't take cash from the government...

GM took money from the government and now a CAR company is being run by people who aren't even fit to run the COUNTRY! I guess they need to pick one. The one that doesn't affect us all drastically.

    • Take your factory laborer that has devoted themselves to working for Ford in a mind numbing production line environment for 20 or 30 years or more to feed his or her family.

Then allow companies to raid pension and healthcare benefits that were EARNED and PROMISED during that working period. Prop up the CEO Senior Execs and the board of directors with bonuses and golden parachutes...

Reward the workers for past profitable performance with loss of pension benefits and healthcare. Let the average worker in America eat friggen dog food because an army of lawyers and politicians have stolen their pensions. It never ends. I had hoped for better...

and this is what passes for success in corporate amerika, still.
those that applaud ford for this success are the same people that would condemn unions and what they've tried to do for workers. granted, that system is far from perfect, but when allowed, a corporation will give it's bottom workers crumbs and tell them to be thankful they have jobs.

    • Let Ford run our Federal Government for a year. They can layoff the dead-weight politicians and take away their healthcare and pensions. Eliminate the deficit....boy this makes more sense than ever.

American citizens would finally get separation of Corporate and State!

    • "The earnings came despite an $800 million revenue drop. But Ford said it cut costs by $1 billion during the quarter, accomplished through layoffs in North America and Europe, reduced pension and retiree health care costs and improvements in productivity and product development."

notice the phrases " layoffs in North America and Europe, reduced pension and retiree health care costs"

know anyone who used to work at Ford? ah well, tough shit for you, eh?
