Was Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter, an Islamic terrorist? Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, was about to be deployed to Iraq. Early reports indicate he was unhappy about his deployment, and had no support for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Although Hasan had just been promoted to major in May, his family reports he was actively seeking a way out of the Armed Forces, even going so far as hiring an attorney.
Hasan allegedly armed himself with two guns and opened fire on the grounds of Fort Hood, the country's largest military base, killing 13 people and injuring 31 others. In the aftermath one searches for answers to why such an educated man, a physician dedicated to the healing arts, would commit such a heinous act.
