Sean Hannity: 'Jon Stewart Was Right' About Swapped Demonstration Footage

WakeUpPeople
A day after Daily Show host Jon Stewart accused Sean Hannity of swapping protest footage to make a Nov. 5 anti-health reform rally look larger, Hannity conceded that his program used an "incorrect video" during the segment. "It pains me to say it: Jon Stewart was right," Hannity said, according to the New York Times' Media Decoder blog. Hannity called the incident an "inadvertent mistake" and did not explain how it had happened.

On Tuesday night, Stewart joined a number of media watchdog organizations in claiming that Hannity had dramatically exaggerated the numbers of last week's protest. Stewart said footage shown on Hannity's program while he was interviewing the rally's organizer, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), looked markedly different than footage that had been seen earlier in the program. A closer comparison revealed that the majority of the footage rolling during the segment with Bachmann was from September's "9/12" protest, which had been a much larger event. A small notation on the screen said "earlier," but Hannity referred to the visuals as "Thursday," implying that the footage was of the Nov. 5 rally.

Hannity is not the only Fox News host to be accused of using misleading video footage recently. While criticizing White House communications director Anita Dunn for her alleged love of Mao Zedong, Glenn Beck chopped off a clip of Dunn's speech that altered the context of her statement, according to the Web site Media Matters for America. The "doctored" clip was used on several Fox programs.

    • Only a true zombie shill would look at falsified footage and call it a "mistake."

I'm guessing you've never edited a video. It doesn't just fall into a vat of film like so much soup. You know exactly what you're doing and where the footage comes from, especially since it's all labeled.

And liberal organizations spinning news? There are none, and your definition of liberal is anything that doesn't have the taint of right-wing stench all over it.

Oh no, liberal organizations NEVER SPIN NEWS. I hope you are not serious. All i need to say are two words: Sarah Palin. Good Lord, if i were that woman, I'd be filing libel and slander suits all over the place. Liberal media took BLOGGER RUMORS and ran with them without fact checking.

    • Wow, haters. So big deal they made a mistake. Anyone want to take CNN to task about ANWR pictures they "DELIBERATELY" fudged to make the frozen tundra look pristine? Need a link? I could go on and on about liberal organizations (aka news) and how they spin and spew lies and distortions.

Unreal, the hate for an organization. It's so transparent the bias and the desire to shut down the voices of opposition.

link please, and also please go on

And as to the "transparent the bias and the desire to shut down the voices of opposition" the voices of opposition is not what I am concerned with or against. I enjoy a good debate with someone who has good ideas. But FOX news with their infotainment shows like Beck and Hannity do not reflect what I would consider opposition to my views. I would hope that an idea or the person with the idea that opposed my own would have integrity and be based on rational and intelligent information. Beck and Hannity are not those people and they do not have those ideas. They are pushing an agenda that persuades people to pursue and follow ideas or actions that are counter productive or even destructive to their own interests in the name of "freedom" and "truth. But what these infotainment personalities and their teams of pundits are really for and with is a society that is more segregated, oppressive and where income disparity between classes grows and the true middle class shrinks.

It would be nice if the "voice of opposition" was truthful for a change instead of deceitful and purposely incendiary most of the time. If your cause is just why the need to distort the facts?

    • I have watched Fox anchors outright LIE and also use baited orwelian language to propagandize and indoctrinate, and thank God for John Stewart's showing one and one of many examples of their liles and decptions.
Now CNN, as you need to boost your ratings, do as John and report the LIES this foul purveyor or propaganda is reporting as news!!!!

All they have to do is break up the media into small segments. There is not enough competition. Rupert Murdock is a corporatist parasite bent on destroyhing the informed populace and replacing it with ignorant people. He is using HItler's tactics to achieve his corporatist oligarchial agenda.

    • I was wondering how wondering how they would "SPIN" this. Personally I thought they would go with the secret mainstream liberal conspiracy theory staple the rely on so often when the truth accidentally comes out.

    • Far too many errors out of Fox for this to be inadvertant. People who demand a truthful media will keep up the pressure and relegate Fox to the sidelines of the media industry where it belongs. With the cheerleaders.

Seems like the right wing crazies are far outnumbering the left wing whackos since Fox ratings are higher than all cable "news/opinion' shows combined. Something's catching on.

That's just more Fox BS propaganda, simple math disproves that. Fox's ratings are higher than normal cable news because they get all the concentrated weak minded fools that will believe anything they are told if it's slanted their way. Plus they get the curious, you know the ones that stop to look at traffic accidents and alike. It's like having the only store in town the sells nothing but junk food and cigarettes in a city full of organic and health foods. All the slow fat people will flock to your door.

The truly hilarious part is Fox, Murdock knows this and play these fools for all they are worth. He know it doesn't have to be true just spun in the RIGHT direction and the minions will dive right in no matter how it smells or how high he piles it on.

Not by me! Say what you want. I hate Hannity because he is a lying arrogant prick and I hate lying arrogant pricks. Fox News is worse than any other channel in terms of deliberately lying or misleading their viewers. Five minutes of unbiased research would reveal this little secret to anyone. However if you think calling people haters in any way takes away from the fact that Fox News is deliberately misleading the public, then you should be dissed for that. Opinions are fine, but ad hominem arguments hold no water.

Obviously the upper class wants to remain advantaged. Well, if everyone opened their eyes and took the chains of status quo and conformity off, the people would realize that the system heavily favors the rich and keeps the poor down, by design. Fox news' purpose is to keep people ignorant... Keep them voting against their own best interest. Fox accomplishes its goals through fear mongering and outright lying.

When I said "chains of status quo and conformity", I meant it in this context. It only makes sense to us that some people have golden toilets while others freeze or starve to death on the streets... because that's what we're used to. That's what we saw growing up. Our economic system dictates this kind of morality. Take away the man-made, completely invented, way that our economy runs, and what excuse is there to give 90-95% of the resources to a special tiny group consisting of only 1% of us and to let other people die due to lack of resources.

For example, say 100 people were stranded on an island in the middle of the ocean. If one of those people, call him Rich (aka Dick), took 95% of the food and let everyone else fight over the remaining scraps or if Rich made people work all day for him for one meal, the other 99 people would probably kick him until he was dead. When you take away the illusion that is our economic system, it's easy to see that it's wrong for Rich to take all the food.

The only way for Rich to prevent this horrible fate is to try to make everyone think it's OK for Rich to have all the food. Maybe he can make up a lie and say that god told him to take all the food. Maybe Rich says that since he was so talented at grabbing all the food that he deserves it more and that the others should have worked harder at grabbing their share. Maybe Rich is so good at convincing people of things that he gets the others to work all day long growing more food for him, because he takes control of the farmable land. He owns all the food grown on it, and gives a tiny amount of it to those who help him grow it.

Rich might also invent a threat to keep people distracted. He might also find the biggest dude there and give him some extra food if he beats down anyone who challenges Rich's position on the island. Whatever keeps the others from kicking Rich to death... or otherwise taking control of 'his' food and making sure everyone has enough to survive.

That's the job of Fox. To keep people stupid enough to vote in such a way that allows the most privileged to remain the most privileged. A clear example of this is spreading the lie that the govenment will kill your grandmother because they don't want reform to take away from Health Insurance profits. Fox news isn't the only problem. So are all the politicians (Republicans and Democrats alike) who are paid off by special interest groups.

    • Don't news organizations post the date of the footage if they air it again. Instead of being labeled "earlier", wouldn't it have been labeled "Sept. 12, 2009". Or is that just every other news organization that does that?

Fox news lies so much that it would be hard to count the lies. They are the reason we have so many uninformed citizens who support policies that are harming them and harming the whole country.. If we could just go back to the days or factual news and investigative reporting, we could fix so many problems in our country.
