US decides not to act on climate change

Image

Even after hundreds of thousands of people have rallied for more concrete steps against climate change, the United States government has decided that now is not the time to take action. Instead President Obama says that this should be done in a "two step process", the first step being more talking.

How long are we going to sit around and wait? The world is watching us and waiting for us to speak up for what is right.

There is no evidence that Climate Change is a scam. I will believe you if you show me legitimate, peer-approved scientific research showing humans are not causing irreparable harm to the climate.

I work with physicists, geologists and meteorologists on a daily basis who all support models that show not only is temperature increase happening, but its undoubtedly due to more than natural phenomena. There is no other way to explain the rapid takeoff in sea level rise, storm frequency, and glacier degradation. See these charts from MIT for more proof:

    • Good news. Though instead of appreciating him for this, most conservatives will probably still find some way to criticize him for it. *sigh*

    • WTF ... "two step process", what next 3 ... 4 ... 5 steps. He's a smart guy and has gained respect worldwide. I just hope there's method to this apparent madness.

The apocalypse of 2012. I thought that was clear. What's the point working for a better world if the planet's gonna fuck up in a couple of years. Let's produce a lot of waste for now and if the mayans weren't right we'll think of that later.

    • obama is a smart guy. he probably realizes that it is better to spend the national budget on things that ARE backed by scientific evidence. like hunger, poverty, clean water shortage, and so on...

what evidence do you have that man is driving the climate? the bottom line is that Co2 has never once determined the path of climate in the planet's history. if you've done any research on the subject at all, instead of just watching al gore's idiotic fallacious "documentary", then maybe you would have a clue as to what is actually going on.

i have never seen the al gore documentary. But I do have common sense and can see that the world is overpopulated and our (the world) emissions problem is huge and is definitely causing the planet to respond.

      To paraphrase Bill Maher:

We have been observing the affects of climate change using high tech scientific equipment: our eyes.

He was referring to the fires in California and the dust storms in Australia.

If you want to know a little bit about how climate science is done watch this short clip:

      http://www.ted.com/talks/rachel_pike_the_science_behind_a_climate_headline.html

Regardless of science, tackling waste is about economics even more than climate change. This country imports oil from other nations to our great detriment. $700 Billion worth each year. If we make the investments in it, now, we will recover our investment in net efficiency in less than 3 years.

It's really a no brainer, which says something about those who are against it.

what scientific evidence is lacking in the climate crisis?!?!

the polar bears are dying, glaciers melting, parts of the country get drenched with rain, some get sweltering heat and not a single drop...

...yea they're all coincidences of the time, no meteorological explanation at all.

it doesn't matter if we're causing it or not. to say that it's not us and just leave it be is laziness, that's why we're getting to where we are.

it shouldn't matter who's causing it, if there's technology to fix it, and some sense, it needs to be done. we're not the only ones living right now, we actually have other generations who deserve a little bit of environmental stability to grow up with.

and how the fuck is poverty a scientific problem??? it's been in existence for thousands of years. it's a human thing where we've become ignorant to everyone's basic needs and lack the compassion and patience to get them out of their situations.

do some reading, some thinking, and some observation...try and rid yourself of some of that blatant ignorance.

haha, I believe healthcare and the overall well-being of the American worker is more at stake now and I believe that was Mr. Oldccains proposal.. lol, It would be "Palin increases hockey players salaries with American tax dollars" headline if that nightmare went through. Be happy hes focusing our tax dollars on more important matters. Since when do conservatives care about the environment? Keep jumping on these opportunities to flame.. they will be more rare than Bush.

Here is what I wrote. Even though I really wanted to, I didn't get insulting. :))

Now is the time for comprehensive reform of the United States dependency on oil and coal products.
Climate change will not wait for talks. While people are talking forests are dying from insects that are thriving under a warmer climate. Oceans are rising, displacing hundreds of people, and that will only worsen.
Traditional "bread baskets" are getting less rain and requiring more ground water in order to keep crops alive.
Begin now. This planet and the human race can not afford to wait for more talks.

What are you going to do come 2012 though? You're still going to vote for his sorry ass.

And you'll keep voting for the lesser of two evils. Maybe not YOU specifically, but the left is held hostage by the Democratic party.

lol, if the headline read "Obama focuses on climate control" i guarantee all you conservatives would just say: "There are more important matters that he should be worrying about..." So, why dont you just suck up the loss and support a cause then flame flame flame like a little kid. Complaining helps no one and spreads like a disease.

The last thing we want (as progressives) is for him to be doing what he is doing.

He may as well go balls to the wall and get the progressives supporting him, rather than running around in the middle doing nothing. You conservative, hawkish, climate change denying, birth questioning, right wing nut whackos will never support him no matter what he does.
