@ KSirys: Thank you for your reply =) Unfortunately, if you look at the rest of the comments on this topic there are so many hateful remarks against police in general, so I think I'm right in thinking there are blanket statements being made, and people are taking about ALL cops when they say "FUCK THE POLICE"...else they would just say "FUCK A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF POLICE." But..there are some shady NJ areas (I live here too), and it is in those areas that I came in to contact with some of my questionable police encounters.

First off, when one becomes a police officer you do not agree to terrible things like that - but perhaps after corruption of honor and a distorted sense of self it becomes harrassment, abuse and all of the other things you hate about the police. Nobody I come into contact with interferes with my life. Teachers? I am the teacher, you are the student. Now that that's clear, every cop swears to uphold all laws. Law says to harass relentlessly those folks who choose to smoke marijuana. So your uncle fooled you into thinking he's not an asshole, but he is under the blanket that makes him one. It's a proven and re-proven FACT. I said it before so if you can't understand what I say, then re-read it. Don't ask me again.

Every officer has what is called "discretion".... The good cops will use this in times where they do not need to be "assholes"...... Our forefathers routinely told us to stand up to laws that were unconstitutional... Unfortunately that stuff is not taught in our schools and our society has become complacent with accepting laws that violate our constitution

@regjoeschmoe can you show me anywhere it says that a cop can use discretion and not "do their job" which is harassing non-violent victimless pseudo-criminals, perpetuate a lie that drugs kill etc? its basic... have you ever gotten pulled over for speeding and gotten a seatbelt ticket?? Ive been caught in the woods drinking around a fire and the cops merely confiscated the beer and told us to leave before the firemen came around because the fire was contained.... even though doing it is illegal I did not get in trouble... that is the power of discretion...... Most city cops wont look twice at someone with marijuana because there are worse drugs to deal with..... Ive also seen the negative side of discretion by being held in a cell for being a victim of identity theft. The basic description of a male with blonde hair, blue eyes slightly shorter and weighing less, plus tattoos that do not match mine give the officers a reason to arrest me... Many do not but I come across a few "assholes" who want credit for obtaing a fugitive......

In the UK they send their kids to other countries while telling them it's for their own good and their life will be better......and then come to find out those other countries only used the children for slave labor. Oops.

Mexicans don't choose to be Mexican. Police officers, on the other hand, choose their position. I don't really think there are any "clean" cops. Maybe one or two but they're ALL dirty for the simple fact that they don't do anything about the abusive cops. There's not a press conference, not a resignation, not even a locker-room scuffle.The process goes:

Someone gets abused
Complaints are made (or attempted)
Everyone stays quiet and moderately out of trouble until it all blows over
Repeat until retirement

I know who I am speaking about and they are from Mexico...it's not a mix of central america and Spain. Just Mexico. I have a Mexican uncle. I'm glad to admit who is in my family. It's far more diverse than 95% of the world.

Problem with that is controlled anger has a tendency to erupt inappropriately, and one of the ways people deal with their anger is on sites like this, and by saying things like 'fuck the police.' Even though this happened last year, I hope people start realizing the reason why our youth and my generation (i'm 33 now) hate cops!!

I have about 13 years on you and I hate the cops more than just about anything else in life. I have been harrassed as a kid in Chicago and for the last 25 years or so on the road as a trucker. I wouldnt help a cop in time of need for nothing. They can all rot in hell for all I care.

Ihatethemall: My lifetime has shown the exact same truth that you are talking about. Cops are just bullys and assholes who want to legally harass people all day every day. Nobody in my world sees police as public servants... they are public enemy... and it's because of their own actions.

Yes I choose to hate the cops. It's my choice, why? Well, when you first post you said hating people based on what very few do is not smart, it's prejudicial. I'm just returning the favor because of what the majority of cops do around me. I'm not racist and do not take my next statement that way but maybe it is because I'm Asian and the majority of Asians are in gangs... maybe this is why I always fit the "description". Who knows, but hey, if they can judge me because of what others do, then I should be able to judge them too.... but I do get your point, it's not smart... but being smart is not going to help me avoid the dumb things they do

Asians are also looked at as being smart. Do you like that assessment? Do you like people assuming you're smart?

You have to take the good with the bad. You have to learn to deal with the bad. If dealing with it with force is the way you want to deal with it...then you have consequences to pay.

We're not all that smart... The smart Asians come from over seas, the Asians here in the states don't have the discipline to take school all that serious...

On to the topic at hand... I've been taking the good with the bad... cops don't care that I went to College and have a degree... to them I'm just another "Asian gangster." Have I ever been in gangs? Yes, but that was before I grew up... do I still carry myself the same way, no. I know people that fought in Vietnam and they treat me better then cops do...

People can and have been harassed by the police. I know. I just don't agree with with the way people are going about it on this thread.

And I know Asian people because I am half Japanese.

I know those that have mainly lived here and they are smart. Japan's high suicide rate comes from many of their own social standards....America doesn't hold the same standards and that is good/bad---but the good is that it doesn't push people to be suicidal and they are able to flourish in ways they could't 'back home'.

There were people like you in the late 30's in germany. The laws got ridiculous and dangerous towards minorities and there you were on the front lines telling them "you shouldn't have been a jew/gay/non-aryan", "should have followed the law". If it were "very few" as you say, these cases would not be as common. If there were "very few" there wouldn't be this outrage in the community. If there was at least a "very few" who would stand up and step over the blue wall, some justice might come to those who would infringe upon citizens' rights. It's not prejudicial, it's reality.

You'd first have to find the ratio of good to bad or the other way around. Just because you hear more about it does not mean that there are more cases of bad than good cops.

As far as the "sum of my badness". I'm not even sure what to make of that. You can't compare individuals to a massive and disperse group of organizations.

Think of it like this. If there was an organization that for the most part did a really good job, but every couple days or so, due to negligence, malice or otherwise, someone ended up dead or damn near it, would you look at that organization and focus on the great service they are providing? Or would you try to evaluate why people are ending up dead?
