Mace ended up in intensive care at a hospital. His parents believe the actions of Ozark police officers contributed to his injuries and slowed doctors’ abilities to speed his recovery.
“We called the police. My wife was afraid he was going to get ran over or hit,” said witness Doug Messersmith.
Messersmith and his wife were the last known people to see 16-year-old boy walking, shortly before their phone call to 911.
“He looked a little agitated but, other than that, he didn't look to be falling down drunk or anything like that,” he said.
By the time officers arrived, the teen was off the 30-foot overpass, lying on the shoulder below along U.S. 65, with no good explanation as to how he got there.
“According to the doctors, all injuries are consistent with a fall,” said his aunt, Samantha.
Mace's dad believes it was just that, a fall, not a jump. The question is why.
“They tested his system. He was clean of drugs and alcohol. We don't know why unless just being in shock and the whole thing in itself caused him to forget everything,” said Hutchinson.
His aunt says he is undergoing major surgery for a broken back and broken heel. While he was lying on the ground, she wonders why Ozark police used an electric stun gun on him up to 19 times.
“I'm not an officer, but i don't see the reason for ‘Tasering’ somebody laying there with a broken back. I don't consider that a threat,”
His dad says the use of the stun gun delayed what would have been immediate surgery by two days.
“The ‘Tasering’ increased his white blood cell count and caused him to have a temperature so they could not go into the operation.”
“He refused to comply with the officers and so the officers had to deploy their Tasers in order to subdue him. He is making incoherent statements; he's also making statements such as, ‘Shoot cops, kill cops,’ things like that. So there was cause for concern to the officers,” said Ozark Police Capt. Thomas Rousset.

@ KSirys: Thank you for your reply =) Unfortunately, if you look at the rest of the comments on this topic there are so many hateful remarks against police in general, so I think I'm right in thinking there are blanket statements being made, and people are taking about ALL cops when they say "FUCK THE POLICE"...else they would just say "FUCK A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF POLICE." But..there are some shady NJ areas (I live here too), and it is in those areas that I came in to contact with some of my questionable police encounters.
@ JollyGoodFelon: Thanks, too. First off, when one becomes a police officer you do not agree to terrible things like that - but perhaps after corruption of honor and a distorted sense of self it becomes harrassment, abuse and all of the other things you hate about the police. When you say. "Somebody who interferes with my inalienable right to live my life how I see fit is indeed an asshole.", I feel it is safe to assume that you are quite a bitter, negative person - everyone you come in to contact with interferes with your "inalienable right to live your life [based on] how you see fit" because everyone wants you to live the way they are living - police or not. This includes religious leaders, friends, parents, teachers/professors, etc. Do you see these people as assholes? Probably not.
More and more I'm starting to see hating the police as a fad - but at the same time it doesn't make the percentage of shitty police action okay.
@ J_Jammer: Thanks for being level-headed =)

Nobody I come into contact with interferes with my life. Teachers? I am the teacher, you are the student. Now that that's clear, every cop swears to uphold all laws. Law says to harass relentlessly those folks who choose to smoke marijuana. So your uncle fooled you into thinking he's not an asshole, but he is under the blanket that makes him one. It's a proven and re-proven FACT. I said it before so if you can't understand what I say, then re-read it. Don't ask me again.

Every officer has what is called "discretion".... The good cops will use this in times where they do not need to be "assholes"...... Unfortunately that stuff is not taught in our schools and our society has become complacent with accepting laws that violate our constitution

@regjoeschmoe can you show me anywhere it says that a cop can use discretion and not "do their job" which is harassing non-violent victimless pseudo-criminals, perpetuate a lie that drugs kill etc? Drug laws kill. Are you so programmed by their bullshit that you can't see? Are you like the "crowd" of sheep that eat up the lies they blitz you with? How many times have you heard "I'm just doing my job, I have no choice" but then again you believe everything a cop says is truth? Come on now. Most everything they do is harassment of people who were not harming anyone, their "job title" may as well be "asshole"

its basic... have you ever gotten pulled over for speeding and gotten a seatbelt ticket?? Ive been caught in the woods drinking around a fire and the cops merely confiscated the beer and told us to leave before the firemen came around because the fire was contained.... even though doing it is illegal I did not get in trouble... that is the power of discretion...... Most city cops wont look twice at someone with marijuana because there are worse drugs to deal with..... Ive also seen the negative side of discretion by being held in a cell for being a victim of identity theft. The basic description of a male with blonde hair, blue eyes slightly shorter and weighing less, plus tattoos that do not match mine give the officers a reason to arrest me... Many do not but I come across a few "assholes" who want credit for obtaing a fugitive......

Maybe one or two but they're ALL dirty for the simple fact that they don't do anything about the abusive cops. There's not a press conference, not a resignation, not even a locker-room scuffle. The process goes:
Someone gets abused
Complaints are made (or attempted)
Everyone stays quiet and moderately out of trouble until it all blows over
Repeat until retirementFuck the police. They're useless.

You've obviously missed the point completely. It's not a comparison. The good behavior doesn't erase or even outweigh the bad. They aren't even on the same scale.

I'd be afraid too....
So you are the sum of your badness? Ok.

J_Jammer:
Your posts are nonsense. Who said I was afraid? And afraid of what? Dirty cops? Drunk driving cops? I'll take my chances.
As far as the "sum of my badness". I'm not even sure what to make of that. You can't compare individuals to a massive and disperse group of organizations.
Think of it like this. If there was an organization that for the most part did a really good job, but every couple days or so, due to negligence, malice or otherwise, someone ended up dead or damn near it, would you look at that organization and focus on the great service they are providing? Or would you try to evaluate why people are ending up dead?
Don't bother answering J_Hammer, you already have.

Guess that J_Hammer already did. Good thing that's not my SN.
What you're doing is what people study in sociology. Assuming something is frequent just because you see a bunch of news stories about it...
