The problematic intersection of health care and abortion politics will be highlighted again Monday as religious abortion rights supporters demand changes to reform legislation recently passed by the House of Representatives.
Members of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice will hold a news conference calling on the Senate to alter language in the House bill that places explicit restrictions on federal funding for abortion.

the irresponsible behavior would not then be using birth control, it would be abstaining from intercourse all together since most birth control methods have a fail often. As the first reply said, abortion is not something women casually decide to have because for one, it's extremely painful even if you are put under (speaking from experience) as well as being traumatic and expensive. More women need to admit to having abortions so the misconception that it's used "as birth control" is cleared up.

You don't have to be a religious right wing nut to be pro-life. I know many atheists (myself as a secular humanist) who have basic morals, and understand the concept of personal responsibility, and therefore are pro-life.

Does that mean that you are totally against any abortion, whatever the particular circumstances? Pro-choice is the decent attitude, in my opinion. Nobody is to tell a woman what to do with her body, it belongs to her and her alone. Abortion is NEVER an easy choice to make.

rape and incest can get emergency procedures at the hospital, so those are accounted for...and they only take up about 2% of the total abortions in the country. I believe that people should be responsible for their actions and understand that when you have intercourse, you may bring another life into this world. As a society were too used to the easy way out, or getting 'bail-outs'. We need to learn to be accountable.

I imagine this healthcare bill will be about 10,000 words of mumbo jumbo diversion language which, when signed will actually have changed nothing at all, except make things worse for the people.

Why should there be federal funding?? It should be local.... I also read that the wording restricts even the health insurance companies from covering abortions.... Its hard as there is little evidence on this and it is mostly partisan when it is reported on..... Either way this healthcare bill is not going to help too many people.....

The Democrats caved on this issue to avoid the appearance of defeat.
