President Obama will issue an executive order on Tuesday that will create an administration-wide financial fraud task force, according to an official who has been briefed on the matter.

The panel will be chaired by Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. The lead agencies will be the Justice, Treasury and Housing and Urban Development departments and the Securities and Exchange Commission. It will also consist of inspectors general and several other agencies.

The order will direct the task force to investigate and prosecute financial crimes connected to last year’s financial meltdown, while also seeking to prevent future crises by ferreting out fraudulent actors and serving as a deterrent, the official said.

    • "The order will direct the task force to investigate and prosecute financial crimes connected to last year’s financial meltdown."

Does this mean they will prosecute the members of Congress (Dodd, Frank, etc.) who were responsible for the legislation that forced banks to do the things they did that led to the meltdown? Somehow I find that hard to believe.

But it's great to hear our government is expanding it's power. Music to taxpayers' ears.

    • Yes, yes, yes! Accountability is not dead! I hope they follow through and hold the individuals, who were actually responsible, accountable. Not just the working guys. I'm talking about those who were leading by example. "If you don't get caught, it don't matter".

It does matter. People have been desensitized. They no longer think their actions have consequences. “Nothing to see here, move along” has gone on for to long. It’s time to stop moving along and hold people accountable.
