Teabaggers punked at protest rally

SleepDirt
...One of those protesters, going by the alias "Robert Erickson," got a speaking spot at the rally and used it to argue for the eviction of all descendants of European immigrants -- in other words, that contingent of white Americans who these days see themselves as "real" Americans.
But some of the demonstrators didn't seem to notice that the angry speech was targeted at them.

"In Minneapolis where I'm from, we have a huge immigrant population that has been causing a number of problems," Erickson began. "With the economy in recession and so many people laid off and unable to find work, immigrants should not be competing for the few jobs that are open. It's just not fair to the folks who have a claim to this country and have a right to be here."

That was met with with applause, but soon it became clear that "Erickson" had a different notion from the Tea-partiers as to who actually has "a claim to this country."

"Let's send these European immigrants back where they came from," he said to wild cheers. "We need to send every one of them back home. ... They stole this land through genocide and ethnic cleansing."

Even after that comment, some of the anti-immigration protesters didn't seem to notice that "Erickson" was standing up for the right of Native Americans to reclaim their land from the Caucasian population -- even though, as FightBackNews noted, the pro-immigration reform crowd had joined in the cheering.

"Erickson" walked off the stage leading the crowd in a loud chant of "Columbus go home! Columbus go home!"

    • I have to ask, was this staged at all, or did he actually go out in front of real Teabaggers, say what he said, and get the results that the video shows?

Nothing like Ignorant Europeans when they probably didn't know that their government sanctioned kids to leave their parents under the guise of a better life. Let us not forget that it involved other countries like Australia.

Yeah but thats not the point. This crowd clearly has no idea that this man is making fun of them and mercilessly mocking them. That just proves that some people don't actually listen to what is being spouted off; if they here a few key phrases such as "immigrants have taken the jobs of true Americans" or "send them back to where they came from" they don't hear anything else. I mean honestly, if you were listening in that crowd wouldn't you have realized what he was doing? Would you have enthusiastically shouted "Colubus go home!" with the rest of them? It is so stupid you have to laugh at it. There are no excuses. You cant deflect that fact either. You can point out that Europe has done some terrible things but that doesn't improve the IQ's of the people standing in that crowd.

    • Some people are missing the point. I don't think anyone is suggesting that "whites" (there are white latinos as well, in case you didn't know) really all go back to Europe. But if your ancestors didn't apply for a green card before they came over on the Mayflower, you don't have any right to point the finger at anybody else.

J J J J J...i try not to write lengthy explanations for videos that should speak for themselves because i assume people watch them...fuck me for making poor assumptions right? from now on i will include, just for you, a full explanation of the video and my motives for posting it.

if you watch the video you'll see that the anti-immigration protesters are cheering him on up to the point when he says send the Europeans back at which point a majority of the cheers come from the "liberals", although ruthie hendricks can still be seen giving a few claps no and then. and yes some of the protesters do look confused, which is understandable, they came for a hate rally and got satire.

i posted the video because i thought it gave a more accurate portrayal of the event because it pans out into the crowd and you can tell who is cheering. the other video would have you believe that there were hundreds of cheering teabaggers and that wasn't accurate. so it was really for your nay-saying benefit that i posted it.

also are you aware theres a post protesting you? it was pretty funny

Protesting is the right of Americans. Whether there is a million or two...that is their right. Mocking people for their protests or belittling them via what they think is wrong is also a right....but those that mock are not helping anyone. They are not changing anyone's minds and the only reason they do it is to insult.

i didnt really see it as him mocking them. yes it was meant to be satirical but what other way was he supposed to get to that podium and try to have a conversation with those people. they surely weren't going to invite somebody with an opposing view to come and speak at their little rally. discussion of complex political issues such as immigration need to be debated not just summarized by slogans and soundbites.

That's just silly to think that they HAVE to have a different point of view there. Look at Fox news. Look at MSNBC. They don't offer that different a point of view than their own agenda. I don't think anyone should have to offer any other point of view. Especially not by people that want to look clever. Those kinds of people are boring.

thats just my point J...fox and msnbc undermine any real discussion because they are so one sided. you hit the nail on the head when you said it would be boring for them to carry opposing views, these guys arent in the business of reporting news theyre in the entertainment business in disguise as news...which means more people watch that shit and they believe it to be true.

its not about being clever or furthering an agenda its about actually solving these problems rather than just fighting about them and furthering the political divide. everybody is so busy taking sides now that they forget why theyre taking sides, there are real issues that need to be overcome

i suppose in its tone and attitude it is mocking, but it makes a valid point some people dont realize they are descendants of immigrants. it sounds crazy but i used to work for the census and i always had to ask people about their ethnic background and people from the midwest more than any other part of the country had no idea...theyd just say "ameraican" and id have to explain what ethnic background meant and that unless they were native american, "american" was not a correct answer. i always found that kind of sad...my family heritage is a huge part of what shaped my life i can't imagine not having it.

No. Native Americans did not always live here. They migrated....meaning they were not here first. It's not like they were created from the ground of America. They walked over the ice and decided that this was nice. No different than white people taking a different mode of transportation and doing the same thing.

wow. J_Jammer, wow. your wisdom hurts my head. its hard to argue against nonsense.

Facts: Native Americans were the original inhabitants of this land. Most of human life did originate in Africa and worked its way out and around. Those Native Americans did not fight or kill other humans for this land.

Facts: European Americans came to this land to claim it for themselves, which meant killing off or relocating the natives.

As for your last statement, "If we are being nitpicky (and Natives are) they ruined the eco system with their presence." PLEASE POST EVIDENCE!

You need to help everyone understand how you were able to make such a bold statement. It seems you are making the assumption that if people live anywhere, they are going to ruin the ecosystem. When in fact, the natives lived so harmonious with nature that we study their practices now to gain some wisdom. They rationed their consumption of buffalo and agriculture. Many tribes were nomadic, meaning they never settled in one location for too long, so the ecosystems were not burdened by prolonged settlements. Even those that chose to stay in one place, like the Seminoles of Florida, barely left a trace in terms of effecting the local ecosystems.

You really need to reconsider making bold claims off of assumptions and nonsense.

Except the Columbus go home. . . . weird that they'd say that. I guess Columbus is Latino. . .? sort of?

The speech was whatever they believed it to be. . .

In this case it's just about the mocking and insulting.

The camera doesn't even pan. This could just be a set up. And Indians killed thousands as well as ate people. They are not innocent. Nice try.

I'm pretty sure the Native Americans were here first though...

and I'm pretty sure no one is saying they're "innocent" in a broad term.

They did, however, not invade another continent and ethnically cleanse the population while shoving the people they made treaties with off of their land and into pieces of land no one wanted, eventually giving them tiny, sectioned off areas where they were "free" from everything modern.

Sure, the Native American societies probably would have done the same if the positions were reversed. Doesn't make it right.

They were not here first. The animals were. They traveled here and imposed.

I'm going to call Your statement racist libel.

"Libel" Because of the 1100 Native American groups none practiced culturally sanctioned cannibalism at the time of European contact. Save the Aztecs who practiced selective ritual cannibalism on the hearts of POWs.

"Racist" Because you seems to use the epithet of cannibalism justify their being wiped out.

    • J_Jammer:

PreColombian Population estimates just prior to 1492 fall between ten and twenty million, today there are just over four million native Americans, counting multi racial individuals and that figure isn't the all time low. Which means that over six million were killed at the very least, a number that astoundingly compares with modern genocides, despite the fact it was done on a one by one basis with muskets and blankets. But yes you are right American Indians are not extinct, I didn't make it clear that they are still around, I thought it was implied.

My true issue is that the following three points

The First - In any case You say "And Indians killed thousands as well as ate people. They are not innocent. Nice try." For the overwhelming majority that is a lie, and attributing this to all native american would be like calling people from Wisconsin cannibals because of Jeffery Dahmer.

The Second - Your saying that they are "not innocent", as though all American Indians had simultaneously acquired some guilt that made it okay to kill them en masse.

And The Third - You state "Nor does it make it right to talk about them as if something was taken from them and using it as a valid point when it's not."; It is well agreed upon among historians that at the very least both their lives and land right were taken from native Americans. Its not a controversial point at all.

Are the basis upon which I assert that your original statement was both

Libellous - Due to its factual inaccuracy which is demonstrably geared toward maliciously misrepresenting others.

      and

Racist - In its defense or justification of genocidal acts.

      1. You're attributing fault of whites to who they are "related" too making you angry at your own post.
      2. You're trying to guilt white people via past that isn't even theirs. Again something you speak against.
      3. Many have not said it, you did. You're not trustworthy in this regard.

J_Jammer, the day someone sides with you, make sure to send that memo. Once again you are being devil's advocate, arguing for the sake of pointing out your ability to interpret statements in the most moronic and absolute nonsensical ways ever. Your arguments come off as a child saying something along the lines of, "he started it!" or "if they can do it, why can't we?" (DEFLECTION).

If you absolutely believe that native Americans did not have anything taken from them and that Europeans were in the right to kill and relocate so many tribes; then it leads me to believe that the only way you are able to claim having taken a history course with passing grades, is thanks to Bush's "No Child Left Behind" policy. I noticed how you must always come back with something to say, but take some advice, if you plan on doing so now, you had better knock every claim i made, not just pick one piece that barely covers the relevancy off this discussion so you can get yourself off, as if you have any room for victory. Have you noticed any support for your arguments yet?

Indeed. How did white people make America better? They killed off nearly all the indigenous people, then imported slaves to beat/kill/farm the land, then killed and swindled their way to all the land in America today. It's amazing they stopped at the US borders and didn't take over Canada and Mexico.

And people wonder why the international world hates Americans... I wonder how long before we get a pissed-off, testosterone-driven, take-no-shit president and nuke someone else(I'm talking to YOU, North Korea)...

Yes, the Native Americans actually acted like flawed humans and killed people...

That TOTALLY justifies the near-genocide of their people.
BTW, Where's the near-genocide for Europeans and Americans, since they've killed people before... I'm guessing that's around the corner.

Hell, why stop there? I'm sure every race has their share of murderers. Maybe we should just blow up the whole planet. That will show 'em not to kill people.

I like your line of logic, J_J. Murderers should have their races killed off, so they can't murder anyone else. And when there's no one left to kill, there will be peace on Earth for once. Maybe I should introduce that bill to the Senate...

They have been broken down by some very resourceful people to believe what they are given. They are ready to believe in anything, Obama=hitler...ok why not? Health Care bill=Death Panels...that doesn't sound like the government, by god lets do something about it.

People who are well informed need to stop just assuming that what they know for fact beats a bunch of crazies......you have to come back with crazy to beat it. They aren't REALLY stupid just LAZY and really misinformed, but in a school system like ours, can you blame them.

I agree, I just think that these people are acting from motives unknown to themselves. They are sheep or zombies, or some sort of hybrid of the two and while their actions are unrepentant and should not be excused. I feel that the knowledge that these people are not inherently evil or even ignorant per say means that there is hope for them, as easily manipulated as they are, we need to as a fraction of society that is well informed to take these meager sheep and turn them on their masters. It takes one person to start a revolution, mostly because the majority of all people always have been sheep....or zombies or zombie sheep as it may be.

OK, yeah I agree with you for the most part.

When we simply condemn people as possessing some inherent negative trait or deficiency that allows them to act in some disagreeable or objectionable fashion we ignore the fact that we are fundamentally vulnerable to the same forces the drive them to act as they do (whether or not these are especially stupid people).

However; the cornerstone of manipulation is the compliance and agreement (whether conscious or otherwise) of those who are misled. If a person believe that they shouldn't change their mind on a particular issue or even as a general principle, how does change happen except to wait them out and see whose beliefs bring them the greatest future prosperity?

I'm not sure its possible to "take these meager sheep and turn them on their masters" as you say.

I'm not sure if Trut is being sarcastic or not. Most people seem to think that it was Europeans who brought agriculture to the new world, when in fact it was the natives who taught the Europeans how to survive by using farming techniques that were well developed in the Eastern part of what is now called America. People think that Native Americans were quite primative. Our BS "history" classes in America are a disgrace to reality and the Teabaggers are a sad example of the ramifications of "educating" based on preferential thinking.
