OMG this is so true and not to mention regaining respect and credibility in the world. Now I ask all the GOP'rs out there, how can American be considered the "shinning city on the hill" if her image is tarnished with torture? Prosecuting war crimes in this country will demonstrate to the world, that America is not an arrogant vigilante of the world, and that no citizen who serves their country is immune from prosecution for crimes, felonies, misdemeanors, lies, bribe repayment in the form of "no bid contracts", etc. etc.

The main point is that we know that torture is wrong. As Mr. McGovern said about his atheist friend saying that you don't need religion to know that torture is wrong. Unless one is a sociopath, it is not natural for one to want to cause harm to another human being.
Even worse, to cause harm to a human being to extract unreliable information is unconscionable. This should be basic knowledge to anyone that has the ability to imagine themselves in the place of the tortured person. I know, without a shred of doubt, that if I were tortured I would admit to killing President Kennedy even though I was not even born. I would say absolutely anything to make it stop.
Adding to the insanity is the fact that there are endless case studies that prove that the befriending and treating with respect of a person that you are trying to get information from will produce far more reliable results.
What the United States of America did was simply become what we are supposedly fighting. It is disgusting, disgraceful and the fact that no one is being prosecuted is outrageous. We could not have produced a more effective terrorist recruitment program than abandoning our moral high ground.

Ah, but that is the mistake so many make. In fact, we are animals too - we are simians, primates, and in the animal kingdom we belong to the Hominidae or Great Apes family along with gorillas, orangutans, chimpanzees and bonobos. Humans are the only animals who commit torture on other members of their species.
