it will never be legalised with our current systems in power - the uk governments drug advisor was sacked for sayinf alchohol and tobbaco are more dangerous than pot - so now we have a government which disagrees with science!!

its not that they disagree with science, its that they get major bank off prohibition and they are afraid to give up that revenue.
but the irony is that if legalized, regulated, taxed, farmed, and fabricated not only would even more billions of dollars be generated from just the selling of cannabis, but the production of HEMP's numerous uses. it would also stimulate the economy in a major way because not only would billions be saved and generated but millions of jobs would be created.
so in actuality the govt. is shooting itself in the foot by keeping this ongoing war against cannabis thats an absolute horrific failure. the govt. is forcing the people who need cannabis to purchase from drug dealers or cartels, not all cannabis dispensaries are legit. we are forced to pump blood money into cartels hands so they can get more power.
in the end (if this so called "war on drugs" keeps going) no one is going to win, but the public is going to keep losing.
and all this bull about not being able to regulate effectively is complete crap. there are plenty of ways to go about regulating, again its the money the govt. is afraid of losing from various lobbyists and special interest groups.... alcohol being the biggest one.
there is a way we can effectively attack this whole situation.. but it would take nation wide organization and cooperation of all who are pro Cannabis/Hemp Legalization. it would take education, demonstration and debate.

There is no comparison between the two.
One is a harmless plant, that no matter how much you take will not overdose and kill you.
The other is a Methamphetamine made from household cleaners and over the counter drugs created by German chemists during WWII for the German army to keep them awake and fighting. And even now decades later it kills by the thousands every month.
To compare the two is laughable. Like comparing apples to hand grenades.

I'm not a user but it is contentious subject. The one commentator that was worried not enough people who use will turn out to vote seemed kind of silly. People who are serious users revolve their lives around purchasing & smoking. You'd think they put in the effort to vote for ligalization.

Every day more and more Americans are learning the facts about cannabis hemp. Even people who do not consume cannabis understand the ‘war on cannabis’ has been a travesty. Politicians know, but yet they sit there in silence, while people like Senator Coburn talk about cannabis being the biggest threat to American children. I’m tired of politicians ‘using’ children, mixed with a little ‘madness’, to spin fear into ordinary Americans and change the dialog away from a factual ‘science’ based discussion. The facts are against them, so no one states facts. They just sit there like, Eric Holder and nod their heads. It was such poor representation of ‘Justice’.
Senator Coburn making such claims, puts fear into our representatives and apparently our Justice Department. They think their silence will make them appear ‘concerned’ for the children. I say ‘bull shit’! The numbers of mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters who have been sent to prison, has done far more harm to the children and the entire family structure, than any possible harm they would get from cannabis.
Education is what would help the children. Stop forcing them to feel as though their family members are criminals and they have to hide the ‘dark secret’. Cannabis is the number one cash crop in America. Many adults are smoking cannabis. The children know it. They are forced to remain silent. How can they defend their loved ones, if our politicians are spinning ‘reefer madness’? They don’t understand people are lying, with purpose. It’s for ‘money’, not the ‘bull shit’ of ‘real’ concern for them. If our politicians really gave a damn, they would stand up and use science as their guide and not the ‘madness’, which has been used to fight an ‘unjust’ war! It’s time to stop arresting mommy and daddy based on ‘madness’!

@ serenden68 - you are correct, cannabis prohibition is 100% about money.
And let's not forget about the many, many uses of hemp that have been sidelined by other industries like big oil... It's sad to think how different things could be if we'd have stuck with hemp.

Education is the 'key' to change. Jack Herer's book "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" is an excellent tool, to educate one's self and others. The book contains the facts and the documentation to back up the facts contained in the book. I was in my mid thirties before I read the book and I have 'not believed' the lies and disinformation since.
I had no idea cannabis hemp had such a positive history. All I knew was the 'reefer madness' I had heard throughout the years. Take the time to look at the book, you won't be fooled again either. http://www.jackherer.com/chapters.html

thanks very much Jack for this post.
to be honest, and this is just my opinion. this all has to do with money...
not a damn bit of this has to do with health, because if that was the case half the drugs being sold today over the counter and even on TV would be illegal. the judicial system makes money off prohibition and they don't want to give that up.
which is why i say, everyone should really organize and educate their fellow neighbor on the things that are happening due to prohibition. now we shouldn't be like our opposition in only talking about the positives of legalization but talk about the negatives..
I would much rather a person say no to marijuana and actually be educated on the subject, than have a person who's only source of info is FOX or organizations of the like, say no.
also we as cannabis activists need to start taking this thing a little more seriously, meaning, actually rallying at state capitols, demonstrating at town hall meetings or city meetings. i know we take this thing very seriously with the things we already do...
but when was the last time you saw anything about a rally happening around your area. how many times do you even hear anything about cannabis in your daily life, not counting what the friends or fam that smoke say. and what we read in news papers or hear on the news is only a small percentage of whats really going on.
now i don't want to just tell yall about what we need, but you cant say that im not right.
education is one of the most important things a person can obtain, and in this case its one of the most important things we could give to help win this damn fight. if a person is educated then scare tactics and falsified information would be useless, in which case the opposition would have to stick with cold hard FACTS.

Another WIN for the people, but it's not yet a done deal. Let's keep up the fight. The most important thing next will be to have an overwhelming turnout of people voting for legalization. I would caution people that just because most people support legalization in California that if they only show marginal support that it will hurt the movement in other parts of the country. It will take an Overwhelming turnout in California to convince politicians in other parts of the country that Legalization is the best thing for the entire country. The problem is that too many people that are pro-legalization tend not to vote. If the pro-legalization public can be convinced to vote then I see a Large majority of votes to legalize it. Who actually takes the time to vote will be key. You can be sure that the churches will have programs to get people to go vote against it. They will even give people rides to the polling places. Businesses that oppose legalization and law enforcement will also have strong programs to defeat legalization and they will be turning out in record numbers to fight any form of legalization. If you think that just because most people want legalization that you don’t need to vote then you may as well be voting against legalization.
Let’s make this happen people. VOTE! - 2 years ago
